BMCC NURSING PROGRAM FALL 2021

Published

Good evening Everyone,

I have a question and it seems like everyone on this forum responds much quicker than the school does so please respond if you know the answer to this.

I plan on applying to BMCC’s nursing program in Fall 2021, I’ve completing my prerequisites (Eng 101, Mat 104, Psy100, Chem 121) and have gotten an A or A- in all my classes and accumulated a 3.9 GPA. I just completed Eng 201(which is not a prerequisite) Summer session with a C-. I’ve taken Speech 100 & I’m taking BIO 425 and Psy240 this fall.

Based on what I was told by The nursing dept, they only look at your grades for the 4 prereq’s (Eng 101, Mat 104, Psy100 & BIO425) but I’m wondering if I should retake my ENG 201 class for a better grade.

Please note I’m in the process of reaching out to my English 201 professor to dispute my C- grade.
And I’m considering transferring to other nursing schools since BMCC’s process is lengthy.
Please share your thoughts, Thank you!

Hello.

Based on what you were told by the nursing dept, the four classes - ENG 101, MTH 104, BIO 425 & PSY 100 - are the prerequisites you need to apply for the day program. ENG 201 and SPE 100 can be taken while you are completing the program. So they will not necessarily factor in your grade for ENG 201 during your application process, but if you choose to retake or dispute it, it will only serve the benefit of improving your overall GPA, and not affecting your chances of applying for the program.

Don't be discouraged. You have stellar grades and you only need BIO 425 to complete your four prerequisites.

In my case, I am applying for the evening program for Fall 2021. If that is the session you are applying for, then you will need ENG 201 to be eligible to apply.

Specializes in Nursing Student.

For the evening program eng 201 is required and for the program you need a minimum of C in all classes.

If I were you I would contact my professor and see if the C- could be changed to a C, if not I would retake it.

hello,

I am also applying for fall 2021 at BMCC. would anyone like to start a whats up study group? where we can ask questions about the HESI and stuff?

That would be great!

Thank you for the feedback everyone, I disputed my grade with the professor and she allowed me to submit a late essay I missed which brought my grade into a B+.

I would definitely be interested in a study group for the HESI, I’m taking BIO 426 this Spring and possibly taking BIO420 in the Summer.

Did they change the requirements for the Evening/weekend program for Fall 2021?
when I first started the nursing dept told me Eng201 wasn’t a prerequisite, you could take it once you got into the program.

That is true, but it seems like the requirements keep changing from a year ago as I had to look at the updates just now. For the evening, the five PCI are CHE 121 (which implemented for Fall 2020 onward), ENG 101, MAT 104, BIO 425 & PSY 100 (I remember before you could've swapped this with SOC 100).

BIO 426 and BIO 420 are also required before entering the program.

ENG 201 is listed on the latest checklist and I am now unsure if it is factored into the entry GPA. I also see SPE 100.

I had also once emailed the nursing advisor and she sent me the requirements info. One thing that I was unsure of is if I can take a class while applying for the program and she told me that only BIO 420 can have a grade pending while I submit the application. That's the last class I am taking this semester as I will be applying for the fall.

I apologize if I am repeating myself from my previous post or providing unnecessary information, but I would definitely welcome any corrections, clarifications, or information that I am missing or wrong about.

Hey y'all!

I'm also applying to the fall 2021 day program... I have gotten only A's in all my PCI grades, and A's in non-pci courses as well, so I am less concerned about my bmcc GPA. However, I'm 30 and when I first went to college as an idiotic 18 year old, I took a semester of courses and just...didn't go apparently LOL. I have no memory of this, but it sunk my 4.0 to mid-3's when I calculated it. I'm worried this will prevent me from getting into the BMCC program, is it true that they only consider your PCI grades?

also, I get SUPER bad testing anxiety and missed the deadline to take the HESI this Winter, which I was hoping to do as a practice. I'm wondering if there's a way I can take it before the may deadline, as a "practice". Does anyone know if you can take the HESI without being attached to a certain school? I know bmcc only allows you to take it once per semester, so I want my scores from May to really count and be as high as possible. I know myself, and I usually do much better the second time around, because I am more acquainted with how the exam works. I have loads of practice test books, but they just aren't the same as sitting for the actual test.

Send me a private message so we can start a BMCC WHAT'S UP study group for HESI A2 to be taken on May 1st  ?

You and I are very similar, similar GPA, also trying to get practice for HESI. I am trying to start a what's Up study group for May 1st exam. If you like send me a private message and I we can link up. Also if you know of other students we can add them to the group.
