BMCC Spring 2023
They have to be the school color, you don't wanna be sent home and take a clinical absence in the middle of the semester those uniforms from flyn o hara takes ages. You are only allowed once to be absent the next time you are absent you automatically fail the class and will repeat again. I've seen students sent home with the wrong shoe color. and one student failed the course cause she was late twice. Remember guys you only get two life line in the program for the whole 2 years. and in fundamentals you can only withdraw. and if you fail once in fundamentals and fail again you are out of the program, and the following semester you are only allowed to use a NC. opting for NC you need 77 to pass the repeat semester. Save the headache, and get the school uniform. they are embroided in the pants and in the front with the school logo. 2 is enough when I had it, cause sometimes you just don't wanna do laundry. LOL

Yes, and please order ahead, they have to put the embroidery on them and they take ages to come. be very careful with sizing its not stretchy. Also, don't buy the bandage shears, just the uniform and the penlight. I havent used the scissors at all. in all semesters. stethoscope and penlight is all you need, there is also the clinical folding pad on amazon get the one that folds in three its easier to write in clinicals.

For fundamentals, wait on the instructions for the drug test they must be 30 days before your clinical date. for fundamentals you have to spend some time in school learning the basics. however the physical checks, titers etc must be done ASAP because castle branch takes ages to go through. .you have plenty of time tob get cleared you don't go to clinical hospital right away, however do it asap so you don't get a headache. Goodluck! also. Read ahead on the Nursing process chapter. It's 6 chapters and its so long. seriously get that out of the way.

BMCC Spring 2023
I just finished taking my final a couple of days ago. My advice future nurses, make friends in the program and study really hard some of the people in the program study from 9 AM to 10 PM. Once you are inside the competition gets thrown out of the window. Get to know your colleagues and connect, spend time with them, and do group study. The more you progress through the program, those who did not have support from their peers failed and repeated the course. Utilize the EAQ which you will learn about when you get inside the program. The program is now changing to reflect the New NCLEX. The program is really hard, I have seen classmates cry in the middle of the test, tears shed and you really need support. Goodluck! You will find out your inside the program once you get a zoom link that is making you not share it. I found out I was inside the program towards the end of the december. Heads up, there is a drug test. So get your affairs in order ?

BMCC Spring 2023
if fundamentals is hard, it gets harder the more you progress. Nursing school is like getting a 74 feels like an 84. LOL It really is quite unfortunate, we had 5 people drop in the beginning because the program wasnt for them, and I felt bad because there must be people who didn't make it are passionate and wanted to go in... this programs shakes and humbles you. our cohort started 27 in my section the original crew now is only 13.

BMCC Spring 2023
whoa. 13 students repeating fundamentals is SO unheard of that is shocking. usually a few withdraw and some leave because its too much for them but dang 13

BMCC Spring 2023
It is totally understandable, some of my colleagues had to make deals with their employer and never hurt on trying to move. but be sure to back your claims by having a letter from your employer so the better chances you get transfered.

BMCC Spring 2023
The evening is harder to get in only 27 slots are taken, in contrast to morning where a total of 54 students are being selected. PCI cut-off for evening was higher than the morning.
-
BMCC Spring 2023
Just a note, it is extremely hard to move from morning and evening, I know one student who needed 2 letters from 2 jobs and was luckily moved because one person from the evening wanted to go to the morning. you will also need approval from the chair and the deputy chair. It is very rare to be moved, so do consider that when you apply. the only easy part to move is the morning section having afternoon and morning. Section choosing are lottery base but you can coordinate with your cohort to move only for the morning. the evening class sticks together till the very end.

youll be fine as long as you review, slots depends also how many people failed on fundementals (rarely happens)- but there were instances a few gets left behind and they get priority spot but overall, once your in, competition stops, my advice in the program is learn to network, and collaborate with your cohort. you guys are stuck together for 2 years, youre going to need a study buddy, and get along with your colleagues because in clinicals, if your stuck with poop in your hands and you need gloves or another wipes?, you better have a friend to save you LOL :P. the program is a blast, but keep your crying and mental breakdowns to 5 minutes minimum ?

BMCC Spring 2023
the curve ball is critical thinking, because its a bit of fundamentals questions, and may need you to think critically which you will be doing in the program.

BMCC Spring 2023
its fairly easy, know your basic math, fractions, decimal, addition, word problems anatomy: know the basic anatomy, some YouTube videos give you tips and they showed up on the exam. esp bone of the ears, and the joints. reading is where I had an issue, but with practice its doable. critical thinking is where most people will struggle, . it doesn't tally up with your HESI score it will just add the 3 subjects critical thinking was separate. but you can convert it later and add it to the mix. 90% was the cut off for my cohort. Anybody who was below 90% did not got a spot. obviously the higher the better You will get to choose which ever you tackle first, once you log in you can do whichever subject you want.

BMCC Spring 2023
Its kind of difficult to study for the crtitical thinking portion for the HESI entrance exam because most quizlets about critical thinking are pertaining to the nursing interventions. For the HESI entrance exam, in my opinion its about common sense, like hippa laws , and why you shouldnt date your patients, not discussing patients in the elevator, don't take cash gifts etc; which patient should you see first, in my entrance exam, I only reviewed hippa law, priotization in nursing and airway breathing circulation priotization and recognizing symptoms of an infection. this is the section of the exam is hard to study because it varies alot. this section is testing you if u can "think" like a nurse
