Hello fellow BMCC nursing applicants,
Anyone applying for Fall 2011? They now require the HESI A2 (I believe the Spring '11 hopefuls didn't need HESI). Does anyone know what the percentages will be for prereq GPA/ overall GPA/ HESI score in determining the rankings?
I'm pretty worried now because I was hoping to boost up my overall GPA from 3.7 to above 3.8 this semester. But finals just passed, and I calculated my grades; I think my GPA is dropping to a ~3.63 because I might receive a C in my Microbio class. I'm considering emailing my professor and requesting some kind of administrative withdrawal instead of getting the C. If somehow I'm allowed the withdrawal, my GPA will become ~3.84. My prereq GPA is ~3.86 (2As, 2A-s).
BMCC is notorious for rejecting 3.8s, let alone 3.7s and lower. Should I rely on acing the HESI or should I contact my professor and hope I get the withdrawal? Or is there a possibility that a 3.7 this sem could get accepted?
Hi guys,
I picked up my packet today also. When I saw how much money it was going to cost I nearly --sorry I've been waiting so long for an excuse to use that emoticon....
nowitsthetime: There are several pieces of information in the packet. If you look through the pages that are stapled together, the first page is the "Letter of Acceptance" page. Turn to the third page that is titled "MEMORANDUM" and on the back of that page (page 4) is the list of all books that are required for the semester--10 in all.
From what I gather the first 5 books can be purchased as a set? You can also purchase these separetely, as I've already looked into it.
Now if you flip back to the page before the "MEMORANDUM" page, to page 3, it gives a little bit of a rundown on some requirements prior to the first day of class--brush up on MAT 104, and read Fundamentals of Nursing, not to be confused with the other text Fundamentals of Nursing enhanced mulyi-media edition. From my understanding it is from this text that we need to read the 6 chapters listed. I'm sure the other 9 text books can be purchased at another time, or maybe they'll inform us otherwise during orientation.
Nowitsthetime, you've probably figured this out by now, or someone beat me to the punch. :) Anyway, congratulations to you! See you guys soon....
Nowitsthetime,
Gosh, now I see how confusing it is! These required books are not very organized. Either the incorrect ISBN number is listed or the ISBN is correct but belongs to a newer edition.
Anyway, I did find the 'fundamentals of nursing' 7th ed. The ISBN I found it under is: 9780 3230 4828 6.
if anyone else has any helpful info to add that would be great.
I just checked the BMCC bookstore website and checked the course list for the NUR 112 class (the course list is the same for all sections). I compared it to the course list that we received with the "package". Ican see how confusing it can be but I think I figured it out. The booklist from the package, a couple of the books are not the newest editions and the course list online on the bookstore website is, that is why the ISBN may not match up. The course list online also shows the book package, the individual books in the package, and other recommended books that are optional. So that in itself seems very confusing. if you look at the booklist that was given to us we technically have 6 books to buy, (5 books and then the package). when u go online just check the package, the other 5 recommended books and the total (for all NEW books) will be $444.35.
Thanks so much SJesecaB for posting that info!
Wow, that's a lot of money! I feel like I'll need to sell a kidney to pay for some of this stuff (Kidding, I love my kidneys). :) I just ordered 'The Fundamentals of Nursing, Enhanced multi-Media education Package' because I had read that it replaced 'The Fundamentals of Nursing.' So I thought the "media package" WAS the 'Fundamentals of Nursing,' but with the DVD and perhaps therfe might have been an error on our booklist? My bad.
Sigh. I checked Manhattan Books, but they don't seem to have the package, nor do they have some of the "required" texts. And ya know, I've never purchased a book from BMCC so I never even thought to check to see exactly what it was that the "package" of books consisted of.
Yeah, this is a bit confusing and it could have been organized a bit better, but somehow we'll all figure it out. :) Anyway, thanks again SJesecaB.

Hi guys I went to the BMCC bookstore and they have the first 5 books on the list and the online access code as a package for sale @ $243.00. The other books u have to buy seperate.
Did anyone tale the CPR certification course yet?? BMCC offer it for $69.00. I found some online course also for like $35.00 but not sure if ND will accept it. Does anyone know?? When I called Mr.S he said to ask him on orientation day.
SkinyWinky--much better price. Thanks for posting! In terms of CRR certification, it says that their hospital affiliates require certification by "AHA certified trainer." Does this mean that the Red Cross doesn't apply?? I don't know. Good question.
I just emailed The nursing coordinator for clarification, As I'm sure Mr.S is swamped with calls and will just tell people to wait until orientation.
just cheacked the barnes and noble website and they are having a sale and free shipping and they have all of the books for about $10.00 cheaper per book. So we can save about $100 off of our total book order. Just type in the ISBN in the search box and you will see how much cheaper the new books are compared to the school website. (its the same company, i dont know why they charge us more in the school)
