Hello fellow BMCC nursing applicants,
Anyone applying for Fall 2011? They now require the HESI A2 (I believe the Spring '11 hopefuls didn't need HESI). Does anyone know what the percentages will be for prereq GPA/ overall GPA/ HESI score in determining the rankings?
I'm pretty worried now because I was hoping to boost up my overall GPA from 3.7 to above 3.8 this semester. But finals just passed, and I calculated my grades; I think my GPA is dropping to a ~3.63 because I might receive a C in my Microbio class. I'm considering emailing my professor and requesting some kind of administrative withdrawal instead of getting the C. If somehow I'm allowed the withdrawal, my GPA will become ~3.84. My prereq GPA is ~3.86 (2As, 2A-s).
BMCC is notorious for rejecting 3.8s, let alone 3.7s and lower. Should I rely on acing the HESI or should I contact my professor and hope I get the withdrawal? Or is there a possibility that a 3.7 this sem could get accepted?
Thanks for the new info everyone. So the first five books which is the package is the only books that we really need is that right . I will be mad if that is the case because I ordered all 10 books new for 424, dollars include tax and shippping and that is a lot of money to me ?
Does anyone know how strict they are about attendance in the nursing programs . What is the maximun hours or days a student can miss.
Hello future Nur112 (am and pm), I've been monitoring this board and been getting updates on the new acceptance system here at BMCC. Very interesting... I'm now entering my third semester (peds and med-surg) in the evening class and just wanted to inform those who have FB accounts to search BMCC Nursing and join our open group so that most of your questions will be answered by those who are already in the program.
As for books, my advice is to buy the main Fundamentals Book, Reviews and Rationales, and Drug Guide. If you can add Clinical Nursing skills book and Pharmacology memory notecards (this one helped me), that's good but you can always study the nursing skills via YouTube, google it or even borrow it from the library or the nursing lab. Of course, the choice of books will also depend on your professor. My evening class professor mostly used just the Fundamentals Book.
Fluids and electrolytes and Med-surg you will probably need more on the third sem (I sure haven't opened those books yets!). Mosby's Dictionary is only for reference and you can always google everything out there.
Unfortunately, I can't sell my fundamentals as I only borrowed those from somebody else but feel free to contact me again when you stepped on the second sem =).
Good luck and see you around on the 7th floor.
Best Regards,
Doris

I just received an email from the nursing dept. They say that as long as the CPR and AED is certification for a 'healthcare provider' and is for adults and pediatrics it will be fine. However, I want to clarify that I did not ask about online certifications via organizations that might not be well known, therefore, for myself I think I'd feel better either doing it through school, the AHA, or the Red Cross. Besides, I prefer classroom participation for a hands on approach. But that's just me.
