Has anyone worked (or is working) at BCBS or any insurance companies as an RN? I saw openings for SC BCBS (work-at-home) for nurses and I'm wondering if anyone can throw in any thoughts like salary, work hours, benefits, etc. I understand that my salary is going to take a hit but at this time working from home is a good option for my family. Thank you!

Not sure what SC is but I actually have an interview with BCBS this Friday for a CM position. Hours are standard M-F, 8-5. I have read reviews on Glassdoor that their benefits are pretty good. Salary would depend on your location. I’ve done insurance CM before and I love it. Have worked from home for the past 5 years and it provides a really good work life balance to get things done as long as you don’t get stuck with micromanagement leadership. Make sure to ask in the interview the process for appointments, errands, etc.

Sorry, I am unable to reply to your PM. I worked for BCBS , not working from home at that time, but my understanding is they have a lot of remote positions available now. Salary is comparable to hospital nursing. The benefits were outstanding. Good luck.

Thank you for your response. SC is South Carolina. I'll remember your tips.

I currently work for BCBS of SC. Previous case manager for many years and still have friends there. I've been doing health coaching for several years and have worked remotely from home for probably 10-12 years. Many advantages as long as you have good training, a good supervisor and manager, and excellent boundaries for work hours. Some areas may require evenings or option for flexible hours. If not posted in job announcement could ask if that is negotiable. Often there is opportunity in some areas to make a little extra for doing utilization management work extra on the weekends as a volunteer (or at least that was situation when I was CM and did some side UM work to make extra money). BCBSSC has a ton of job openings popping up all the time. I am retiring early 2022 after 25 years there, and headed back into clinical for the next 8-10 years. I need a change and miss connecting with people face to face, including patients and co-workers. I expect returning to clinical will have it's own challenges, but then again it seems most medical fields and jobs are really stressed for lots of reasons. I think BCBSSC is a good place to work with the right boss and if the work leaves you satisfied, or the perks of what you end up with as the total package. Benefits are excellent. Good luck!
Thank you so much for great info!

Bump to the top, I am interviewing with BCBS today for a remote position and any input would be welcomed.
Hi. I do apologize. This site is new for me and as you can see I am not very active on it. just now getting to your message. How did it go?
Also, I have no idea on their starting salary rates, but I would say BCBS of SC always tries to stay competitive. It depends on your experience and years of nursing coming in more than likely.
I start soon and very excited, my current coworkers are not.
Yeah, they probably hate to lose you. Which location and unit were you attached to at the VA? I was actually trying to get on at the VA here in Augusta, but did not get the job I wanted. It definitely requires patient when applying. I had to get a job soon to pay the bills, so could not keep waiting around, and found out about the one I interviewed for. I felt like it was a great fit for me, but seems like getting your foot in the door at the VA is half the battle.
