Has anyone worked (or is working) at BCBS or any insurance companies as an RN? I saw openings for SC BCBS (work-at-home) for nurses and I'm wondering if anyone can throw in any thoughts like salary, work hours, benefits, etc. I understand that my salary is going to take a hit but at this time working from home is a good option for my family. Thank you!

Hi.  I do apologize.  This site is new for me and as you can see I am not very active on it.  just now getting to your message.  How did it go?

I've not been on here lately as well. It went great, I did turn the position down though as there was no guarantee the job would stay remote. If the job went back into the office it would have been 3 hours a da spent on the commute.

I am a RN in Tennessee.  Congrats on the job opportunity at BCBS!!  I have been trying to find out information on how to become a clinical documentation specialist.  I would like to work from home, and I see many job opportunities for this role.  So far, NOBODY I have contacted, including several colleges, has been able to tell me how to pursue this.  The colleges offer a health information management course, in which you will end up with either an associates or bachelors in health information.  But I am not certain that I need to get an associates or bachelors in health information management to become a clinical documentation specialist.  I know to become certified in this, you have to work from 1-2 years in a clinical documentation position before you  qualify to take the test for certification.  But how do you get started?  What classes or training do you need, and where can you get it????  Can anyone give me direction?  I'm so frustrated!!

Unfortunately, I cannot answer the questions you want/need answered.  It does sound frustrating.

The title/position of "clinical documentation specialist" is not familiar to me whatsoever, & I was at BCBSSC for 26 years - knew a heck of a lot of people in many depts through those years.  I worked in UM way back when, then primarily in Case Management, and then in chronic disease management (health coaching) the last 5-6 years.  I hope you eventually find the answers you are looking for!  Best wishes.

Thank you so much for getting back to me on this.  I will keep searching.
