Hello all!
I was lucky enough to get accepted to do block 4 at GWCC during the summer. I will graduate in August now instead of December! Woo!
That being said, does anyone have an recommendations for extra books or anything that helped in block 4? (Block 4 is now Peds then Critical Care.)
Thanks!

No resources but I wanted to say good luck! I really considered going for block 4 at GW this summer too. But ultimately, decided against it. How awesome to be done that much sooner though :) are you putting UIU on hold for now then? Or are you still continuing with them for summer?
Thank you for the good luck wishes! :)
I am still continuing with UIU! I would've had to put these two classes on hold until like October, and I didn't want to do that. It will be a stressful couple of months, but it'll be worth it!
Nice, get it done! Will be a busy summer for you, but definitely worth it :)

HI! I'm very interested in taking block 4 next summer instead of next fall. Im curious, how is it going so far?!
Hi! It has been very intense so far, but doable. We only have 12 weeks instead of 16, so you can imagine how much stuff we have to get through in once class. Unfortunately, my clinical group has our peds and critical care rotations running at the same time (peds on Saturday and CC on Tuesday). That has been rough. Content wise, peds isn't hard. SimpleNursing and Osmosis on YouTube provide a lot of good education on the disease processes. We just started Critical Care, and it is intense. Be prepared! If you are a CEP student, put those classes on hold. I didn't with my first UIU class for the summer and regret it. It's definitely too much!
GWCC and SCC were the only two that offered it this summer, and current students at the 2 got first dibs. I've been told that sometimes only one college does it, and sometimes neither do. Definitely keep an ear out for it!
im glad your doing good! this coming block i have medsurg/mental health combined so i will have clinicals twice a week. I currently go to SCC so I'm really really hopeful. Im not a CEP student because i already work in a pediatric ER so they told me just hurry and get the degree and they will hire me with my ADN. I plan on taking next summer those 12 weeks off of work, that way i can just put my all in, in school. So far we have class twice a week, and clinicals twice a week. how often do you have class? i just want to get done, this 3 month break between block 1 and 2 is actually becoming quite long!
We have class twice a week. Peds and CC clinicals are 3 days each. You also have Immersion in block 4, which is 4 days. It is similar to clinicals, as you have an instructor, but you get to choose an area of interest from the ones given (my class was not offered any 1:1 immersions) and you work the whole shift. From morning report to you giving report at night. It used to be called preceptorship or capstone. GWCC also has ACLS built into block 4, and I know not all colleges do that, so those are extra days. It really has worked out to be more like 3-4 days a week for school stuff.
sounds similar to a regular semester just a bit more busy. do you work at all? or do many of your classmates work during this summer block?
I do work. I do about 2 12's a week, usually. There are some others that work, but most of us have gone to part-time. It is similar to a regular semester, but you just have a shorter time for everything. Losing 4 weeks is a lot, but it's not the end of the world.
I went down to 2 12's right now so if it fits in the schedule thats what i hope to continue. YAY!! I'm super excited i hope i get the spot! is it like put your name in a hat? since i go to SCC i wonder how much better of a chance that'll be
Honestly, I'm not sure. Everyone from GWCC that applied got it, so idk how it works.
