Bizarre! Bizarre! Bizarre!

Specialties Operating Room

So one day they rushed this male patient over to the OR from the ER for an exploratory lap. Fine! No! Problem! I've done that many times. Sure I was only into my second year as a RN working in surgery, but by then exploratory laps were standard to me. The patient came in the room moaning and groaning, must be an appendicitis I thought. Put to sleep, positioned lithotomy style (interesting right?), preped and draped. Lithotomy was not normal but you're the doctor! So what are we exploring for I asked the chief resident. He sticks the x-ray into the lighted x-ray pannel. What the heck is that? It looks like a! Is that a? Is that in the sigmoid colon? How did it get there? Why isn't anyone answering me? I felt so naive! From that point nothing surprised me again. Ended up doing a sigmoid colon resection on the poor guy. Can you guess what it was? What was your most bizarre OR experience?

Was it a 22oz. claw hammer? You're killing me. What was it?

Awww, comon, don't keep us in suspense. We know about carrots, cucumbers, lightbulbs, gerbils, candles....

That's it! I'll bet it was a lighted candle!

I know! I Know!

A bottle of MGD Light!

Well at least that is my guess...

I work OB and a few years ago we got a call from main OR for some obstetrical forceps, well I knew that they were not doing a delivery down there so you HAVE to ask why they would need forceps...Anyways, one of our OBs was at the desk and we walked over together, with a set of Pipers and McLane Tuckers down to the OR seems this guy was having some fun with a few videos, chinese food and a 1lb. jar of Ponds Cold Cream. It created such suction in the lower rectum, that they had the OB help...I had to go back for a section but the story goes...they did a sort of episiotomy through the anal sphincter, throw on the Tuckers and delivered the one pound jar of joy...

I heard that this same guy was back visiting our main OR delivery suite with something or other a few months ago...

Bizzare indead!!!

So I shared my story...what did your guy have, bear or liquor????

Nicole

It was a nine inch long, 1&3/4 inch round, 3&1/2lb metal chisel. With the head beaten flatt to where it splits at the edge. The same type your dad used to pound with a sledge hammer to bust bricks, concrete, etc. etc. It tore the poor guy's rectum to shreds. All I could think about is that must have been one hell of a horny episode. Is that bizarre or what?

Pretty sick huh? I have not seen any more bizzare than that since! The closest I came was when we did surgery on a prisoner who was held down by other inmates and they shoved a metal bar through his eyes clear through to his brains. The bar was about 10 inches long and as thick as a middle finger. It was shaped like a candy cane with a sharp point. Poor guy! He was a strong looking man so it must of took several of them to hold him down. Needless to say, he didn't make it. The doctor left the spike in him because he said if he was to remove it the guy would bleed to death anyway. I hope I'm not alarming anyone. I know it's sickening but, that's my experiences. There is more, but I will like to hear yours.
