BIO 201 at Rio Salado

Published

Hey everyone,

Looking to see if anyone is currently enrolled in BIO 201 at Rio Salado. I am scheduled to start on 4/13 but was hoping to get a jump start on my studying. I have a crazy schedule because I work two jobs (one to pay for school and one to pay for my life), a husband and three kids. I need all the extra study time I can get!

Any study tips and general suggestions are welcome!

Thanks!

For the practical in BIO 201 at Rio Salado just keep your labs handy. Dont over worry about it. As for the final which covers the nervous and muscular systems, visit http://sinoemedicalassociation.org/AP/ and study their nervous system and muscular system review questions and you will be way ahead on the final.

I am about to take the midterm for BIO 202 so I know how stressful the BIO rio courses are. I was a straight A student until I started taking these online Rio biology courses.

Thank you so much, do you have any info on how the midterm looks?

Have any of your instructors in BIO 156, 201, or 202 hammered you about proper citations in your essays?

I took 156 and 201 and never did citations and it was not an issue. I always used the information from the textbook. Now I am in 202 and my teacher is killing me with this. My first essay I didn't cite anything because I didn't have to in previous classes. She deducted about 30 points. On assignment 2 I included citations but made some errors and forgot to cite some of my sentences so I got a ZERO. I went from A to C in one fell swoop. I am pretty upset, but having the issue reviewed by the department chair.

I have no had that issue my teacher asked me to make sure I put them in. And did take points off but has not given me a 0... Wow this school is getting worse and worse. I am only taking it because it started when it did. Man I wish there as another way to take this class. However does anyone remember how the midterm was or what is mostly was about? So I can start studying. I took 156 as well here and was not happy about the program but I have no other choice. I am pushing for a start date of May 2010 at GCU and need to be able to get these done asap... Ugh!

CAC offers all of the courses Rio offers however they are in Pinal County so if you're not a resident you do pay a heftier rate for tuition. These courses (like Rio) are all offered online however you do need to take proctored exams @ sites (sometimes you can negotiate with a teacher to take them near you if you cannot make your way to the QC site or Apache Junction campus). The classes I've taken online are not bad and actually pretty well laid out, if you have any questions PM me and I can tell you some good teachers to take ;)

I would like to start shopping for a different school. What is CAC? I live in Nebraska, so I already pay a steep price for Rio. I pay the distance learning rate which is way higher than the in-state rate, but lower than out-of-state. My employer pays as long as I pass with a C or better.

CAC is Central Arizona College it's in Pinal County. I'm not sure how it works if you're an out of state student, but I do know that you must take a Compass Test which let's them know where you stand in your math, reading, and english. I'm not sure if you can take that near you in Nebraska. If you check this link below for the College Catalog/Handbook

http://centralaz.edu/Documents/catalogs/2009-2010_catalog_web.pdf you can find a little more about this school. I've had numerous issues with financial aid so as long as you're not apply and using any FAFSA funds you'll be fine and not experience any difficulty with that.

The current tuition rates are also available at this link below

http://www.centralaz.edu/Home/Admissions/Paying_for_College/Tuition_&_Fees_09-10.htm

It appears each credit hour is $124 for out of state not too bad- I'm not sure what you're paying now! :)

If you have any questions or anything about CAC feel free to PM me!

What kind of home work you have to deal with at CAC for bio 201? I really do not want to write and essays. And have anybody heard anything about 8 week bio 201 program, is super heard?

I took BIO 201 at RioSalado. Each week there was usually:

1. one chapter to read (the first week had more) and

2. a lecture quiz (quiz on the reading) and/or

3. a lab quiz/practical and/or

4. an essay

Weekly Work: There are ungraded lab assignments every week that have all different formats to help you study and there are videos and activities to help you learn as well. All of the quizzes and practicals (longer lab quizzes) are multiple choice that you take at home and some are timed. The lab quizzes/practicals have pictures and diagrams like the ones in the lab manual (the book you buy). I would highly recommend completing the ungraded assignments. The teacher can not see the grade though, so you can just turn it in blank and it will give you the answers.

Midterm/Final: The midterm and final both have the same format. There are 3 sections (2 multiple choice and 1 essay section). The two multiple choice have 40 questions each (no diagrams or pictures). In the essay section, you must write 4 essays from the pool of about 25 possible essay questions that you are given throughout the weeks. These you must go into a testing center for the final and midterm (call to see the closest one to you) and you have a total of about 3 hours to complete the entire thing.

Hope this helps!

Can you PM me the name of your instructor so that I don't sign up for another Bio she may be teaching. ( I have CHM130 and BIO205 to take) so I can move into Block 3. I took 156, 201,202, PSY101,SOC101 & DEVPSY240 all through Rio and the only place I had to cite sources for the essay questions was within the ENG101 & ENG 102 classes. Thats crazy as these essay questions are pretty much busy work, and repeated on the midterm and finals. How on earth are you supposed to remember citing information to put into the essay without cheat sheets for those? Maybe you could speak with the Student Help site and what did your syllabus say?

that's interesting. in '07 when i took bio 202 through rio, we were instructed to write our essays in our own words, even though the instructor knew the information came from the textbooks. we were never required to cite our sources. however, ever since i took eng 102 (at rio too), every nursing school class essay, group project, pp presentation, etc. that is handed in, citations are definitely required. i started school back when we had to complete the pre-reqs before we could start the nursing program.

i'm starting 4th block at pc this month! :yeah:

I am so happy I seen this post before I went off the deep end- I took rio BIO 156 twice -now I feel I have my get out of BIO Jail card -- I pick my books and started today in BIO 201 but after readying this post I think I still have time to try BIO 201 at Phoenix College (online) instead so I am going to turn in the books that cost more than my freakin class did and head for the hills -Thank the Lord for post like these - I cant not repeat what happen to me for the pass two semesters -- so if I have a better chance at through Phoenix - I am going to go that route... Thanks again

PS. Clmbng Solsbury Hill hey how long did it take for you to get in their program? and also just to be sure in your post you do mean Phoenix College- it was so much better taking the BIO 201 there instead right?
