I just got my acceptance letter this week for the Spring 2011 LPN fast track program at Gateway!! The letter came in the mail saying that I got into the evening program (which was my first choice). I applied in April, so I only waited one semester! I feel so unprepared, but I don't know what to do to prepare myself! Any suggestions?

I can't seem to decide if I should take BIO 205 online or in person! RioSalado is the only online Maricopa college that I would take the course, although, you have in person midterms and finals. Help! What do you suggest?

Do you happen to know who they will be filling the open slots with? I am guessing probably from the group who did not get placed for this Fall?

alright, i am not sure if this is what you are looking for, but it be. i am assuming the "special programs" you are talking about it the same thing as the "mcccd hospital partnerships" 1. copy and paste this link in your address bar (it seems to only work if it is not a hyperlink): https://hceweb.maricopa.edu/cfide/docs/hcies/placementwtbd.cfm **if that does not work, try this: placement white board 2. scroll down below the table and you should see: "click any of the program codes in the grid to view (or hide) the (program options) program description." 3. click the "program options" link in that sentence. 4. a new window will open. scroll to the bottom of the first page and there should be a section titled "educational service partnerships" it is not very detailed, but i think it lists all of the partnerships. it is the only place i can find that has any "official" info. hope this helps!

i am definitely planning on getting my bsn also through the asu-mcccd alliance. the fact that you can lock in tuition is great!

i did not know there was a summer program... i just applied during the april 2010 turn-in period!

maricopa colleges: tip 1: take your net/hesi2a (entrance exam) well before you want to submit your application! some people wait to take it until they have completed all of their prerequisites. the problem is, not everyone passes the first time and there is a 2 month waiting period to retake it, which will most likely bump you to the next application period! tip 2: be familiar with the application periods for the rn programs (i put them below)! the time-stamps are randomized at the end of each period for all of the applicants. you do not want to miss the end of one app. period --> turn in your app. at the beginning of the next one --> and than have to wait until the end of that period to get your time-stamp! ex: if you have your app. completed, turn it in at the end of march (instead of the beginning of april) or at the end of may (instead of the beginning of june). i hope this makes sense! december 1 - january 31; february 1 - march 31; april 1 - may 31; june 1 - july 31; august 1 - september 30; october 1 - november 30 these came from the np (i.e. nursing program) application, which can be found at http://www.nursing.maricopa.edu/.

bear with me; this is a long first post. apologies. :redbeathe i find myself constantly having lots of questions and spending so much time searching for answers. it seems that there are so many tips and tricks about all these nursing programs that i am slowly figuring out. i have learned some lessons through other people and some things by realizing what i did wrong afterwards. (there should be a book to read (before starting) that tells about the application process, waiting process, and everything else surrounding nursing school!) there is just so much information and it is all spread out between different schools, websites, advisors, etc. lets change this! this posting/thread will be a place to post all the things you have learned and the knowledge you have gained from the time you thought about going into the field of nursing to graduation! it will also be a place to read all of the advice that others have. this way, everyone does not have to learn the hard way, like some of us have! types of things to post: advice, tips, tricks, helpful links, good/bad experiences to learn from/aviod, steps to remember, or anything else you would like! hopefully, this will turn into a very useful "guide"! :) *try to keep the posts relatively short and sweet (i.e. without long stories). just post what you learned or what you want others to know. this way, it will be easier to read through the posts and ask questions without having to read the life stories of each person before getting to the last sentence that sums everything up. many of us are students and know how valuable time is!

i am happy that you appreciate the posting! i was looking for it and could not find one, so i just decided to create one... i am sorry! that sounds like a nightmare. the link that rn2bein2012 posted actually gives the exact time that the last student was placed! the link stopped working but this is what it said as of 04/19/10: 2470 students are awaiting awaiting placement. the "waiting" count includes applications that will not be assigned date/time stamp until the next interval randomization on jun 11. the "oldest" application in the database still awaiting placement for a student that has not deferred a placement was submitted on aug 22, 2008 08:01:53 am. in this case, an applicant with only one choice that is for a low capacity program not offered spring and fall. the "oldest" application in the database still awaiting placement for a student that has (5) valid choices and has not deferred a placement was submitted on oct 17, 2008 08:03:58 am. the most "recent" application in the database for a student that was placed in a public pool that did not require a special application was submitted on feb 20, 2009 08:02:22 am. that "public" pool was for mb. here it is again, just in case it works: https://hceweb.maricopa.edu/cfide/docs/hcies/placementwtbd.cfm?longdesc=1 stay positive! you are in the home stretch!

hey! it is called "medical terminology for health care workers i." it is not a "required" course, but it is only one credit and it is a really good class to take while you are waiting. i am thinking about doing phlebotomy fall 10 and it is a pre/corequisite for the program at phx. college. they have i, ii, and iii if you are interested!

cd1234: how exciting! are you a sch employee? that seems like a really short wait. congratulations! msiegel: i am sure you will get in this spring. i am taking 202 online right now too, but i am taking it with phoenix college. i took bio 101 at rio, but at pc you do not have to go to a testing center for midterms and finals. i just finished a medical terminology (hcc145aa) with rio and it was a simple class. i think i got a 100%! pathophysiology and bio 205 are still on my list though too.

i still have quite a long ways to go! i just got my time stamp today for the maricopa ccs ! it is 04/16/2010 08:00:50am!! i have no idea if that is good or not, but it is exciting to see that i am officially "waiting" (even though it seems like i have been waiting forever already). i picked my top 5 choices for schools, well, i only picked two so far. i also just turned in my lpn application at gateway during the april 2010 submission period. i know that fall 10 is already full, but i heard that there is a 50/50 chance i could be placed spring 2011. if i get placed here first, then i will do the advanced placement into block 3 & 4 to get my rn. i am sure the wait will be a lot shorter and i hear that block 1 & 2 of the lpn is better than block 1 & 2 of the rn program! :) i think i may also do the phlebotomy program for the fall 2010 semester at phoenix college because i have already done the nursing assistant program at scc.
