  1. I am a new grad waiting to test next week. Can I apply for my DEA before testing, with just a temporary certification in AZ, or do I have to wait until I have the real deal? The motivation is to get the ball rolling so I can start my new job. Thanks.
  2. I am a soon-to-be new FNP grad, currently live in Phoenix, AZ. But, have been considering a move to Florida, closer to family. I know practice is restricted in Florida, but how is the pay and job pool? How are the prospects for new grads? It looks to me that salaries are a bit lower in FL and that AZ has more jobs, but curious to hear thoughts. Any insight is greatly appreciated.
  3. Does anyone know what kind of MAT scores they are looking for? Wondering if I should rush to take it before the May application deadline.
  4. I need to take a Physical Assessment and a Nursing Research class before applying to Frontier and Ball State(maybe others) for FNP. Can anyone recommend some online options? -Frontier has an online assessment course for around $1500. -Excelsior has NUR-442 Health Assessment and Promotion in Nursing Practice. Not sure this one meets the criteria. -And a nursing Research class/test for credit option - NUR-430 Research in Nursing/NUR-430X. Waiting to hear which schools accept what. Any other ideas or experiences? Thanks!
  5. Thanks, Checker. None of it has been bad so far, but I'll be sure to do that reading.
  6. Awesome! Thanks! I've heard that the respiratory section of the class(vents, etc) was the trickiest part. Any tips or suggestions?
  7. How about for Block 4? Which books did you actually use? That really was great advice, checker1981! After finishing block 3 I would definitely suggest only buying a used med-surg book and a used peds book. It's all you really need.
  8. I bought the book-box but didn't use most of the books in there, including the digital versions. Big waste of money for me. I'd buy a used, older edition of the main text online and maybe the saunders nclex-pn review book. If you don't have a pda, I'd say buy a drug book. But get a used, older edition. It's good enough for how you will use it and way cheaper. I never opened mine and just used the pda. Labs and other stuff can all be looked up online or on PDA apps, so don't buy the lab book. The pharm book was never opened and it didn't hurt my grades to skip those readings. You'll have to buy the case studies, since those are mandatory and graded. Do NCLEX questions to study! NCLEX books from the library have CDs that can be copied to a hard drive and the ipod/iphone apps are great. The goodie bag they make you buy is a waste of money. See if you can find a used one to buy or borrow. You just need to show up with it, the contents are less important. And you won't lose anything by having used stuff.
  9. Check out Gateway's fast track LPN, then bridge to their RN. The LPN only requires an AZ CNA to apply. Can't beat the price either. Estrella Mountain and the Maricopa Skills Center also have LPN programs. All three of these schools are part of the Maricopa Community College system. I don't know anything about Estrella, but the skills center is a little more expensive, takes longer to complete, and gets some questionable reviews. I think this is as quick and inexpensive as it gets.
  10. Awesome! Thank you. You've saved me a bunch of cash!
  11. Thanks for the reply! Did you use any of the IV books? They have two on the list. I'm thinking my drug books on the iPhone will do.
  12. you'll only have clinicals on one of those three days. check the class days and times, too. there are some extra lab days thrown in, but for the most part your schedule should be 2 class days, 1 clinical day.
  13. Which text books do you actually use at Gateway for Block 3? Sure adds up fast if you buy them all! Thanks, MM
  14. No, but I did get in for the fall. Yikes, that's a tough break on the fingerprint card. I will keep my phone with me on Monday, just in case! Good luck, I can't wait to get started!
  15. Thanks for all the info, pediRN2b!
