BHSN-Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing Fall 2011

Started a new thread, since the other threads on this topic look like they are from last year.

Okay,

I just got my acceptance letter in the mail today!!

I was going totally mental with anxiety, checking this board several times a day to see when people were hearing back, compared to when they had applied and what their stats were. I was also very nervous about how I had done on the TEAS, so I wanted to post my info to help other people a little. Here are my stats:

I applied to the school January 4th, 2010. I took the TEAS January 23rd, 2010.

Previous BA degree in anthropology. I graduate in August of 2009 with a 3.46 cumulative GPA.

I took A&P I last fall, at Gateway: B

Developmental Psych: A

TEAS: 81.2% (mean national was 72.8% and the mean for the program 73.3%)

My adjusted individual scores were as follows:

Reading: 82.5%

Math: 82.2%

Science: 70%

English: 85.5%

In all my nervousness, I called two days ago and was told that I would likely hear back from the in school 4-6 weeks. Then I got my letter today, February 5th. For the record, my admissions essay was based on a CNA training course I took in the fall and I also think that having a previous BA really helped, especially in seeing past that nasty 70% in the science section of the TEAS.

Good luck and I hope this information was helpful, or at least of interest, to some of you!!

hey guys I havent been on it forever been so busy but I was accepted last week!! Heres the bad news I am not going :( so I hope one of you waitlisters gets my spot. But yea like I said earlier I have only a few classes to get my BS in public health and I spoke to a conselor at school who said I would be better off finishing my BSPH before starting school because it will make myself look better to potential employees and I will be able to find a job easier cause I will have a Bachelors in something. I talked to BHSN and they agreed. I am working on getting my enrollment deffered til next year but they dont normally do that so Im not sure if its going to happen, but Yolanda went through my file and told me that as long as my gpa dosent drop I should have no problem getting in again next year plus I will have the advantage of having a previous degree. so yea im sad but at the same time im releived to finally have a plan but you guys that did get accepted congradulations and you will have to let me know how it goes so I can prep myself for the following year. Goodluck to all of you waiting on letters!!!!

Oh yea and does anyone know how to reply to PMs cause I cant seem to figure it out I have a bunch and theres not reply button or anything so im just a bit confused lol

Hi Benedicth, that's great to hear! I am so glad that you got everything all sorted out. Knowing that you will have an easy "in" at BHSN next year must have made it a much easier decision! :)

You can't reply to PM's or write new PM's unless you have posted at least 15 messages on these boards.

Best of luck to you in finishing your studies. Perhaps we'll cross paths next year at the school! :) Feel free to keep in touch.

congrats on getting accepted!! i know what you mean about feeling relieved about having a plan though.. thats why i am going soo crazy.. i hate not knowing what my plan is! there are also other accelerated programs once you have a bachelors to get your BSN. GOOD LUCK!!

ladybug.. about nvcc.. almost everyone in my micro class were in the nursing program there and HATED it. they all said that they didnt care about helping you, they wouldnt answer ANY questions, some people had their clinicals an hour away. it was all their first semester so maybe they were a little overwhelmed but they all just complained every class and said that they wish they went to a different CC. dont totally base your decison on it but just wanted to let you know

Benedicth,

I can imagine that it might be frustrating to take all those classes that you don't think you'll need but I totally agree that it's the best choice. In college, I majored in anthropology but focused in biology because my school didn't have a biological anthropology or public health option. Ultimately, I wanted to pursue public health after college. I changed my mind and now I want to do nursing. I feel that it's a similar, but more applied. That is, it still takes into account all the things I really care about, like healthcare and socio-economic status but isn't in the research field, which I decided isn't for me, at this point in my life. Maybe later...

Another option after you get your bachelor's would be a second degree BSN (like the one offered at SCSU, which you would need to apply for this fall, to start next summer and be done in 12 months) and graduate school. There are some great MSN/MPH dual degrees that might fit your situation.

Yale for example: http://nursing.yale.edu/Academics/JointDegree/#eph.

Of course, I'm attending BHSN and I'm sure they've got an awesome program, but once you have your degree in public health, you'll definitely have some more options open to you.

Anyway, good luck with everything!!

Thanks for the advice guys. I went to talk to my micro professor from this semester and bio professor from last semester--who also teaches A&P--they told me i would be better off taking it in the Fall with the program, based on my studying style. So I'm going to take the gamble and take the job. I'm not against the online option, just not sure I want to give up the grant money that covers it if I take it at HCC in the fall.

i called ******** (she is fantastic) there is no numbers for the waitlist because things constantly change like sending transcripts from class this semester. she said they constantly review them and choose that way. She gave me the answer it could be today, tomorrow or august. they are waiting for people that were accepted to 2 colleges to decide where to go that opens spots

nothing still...

Wannabe - If they really sent out the last of the letters this week then perhaps it will be in tomorrow's mail. I'd call again on Monday if you still haven't received anything to ask them if they can check to see if it was mailed out yet. Tell them you just want to make sure your letter didn't get lost in the mail or something. They can look your name up in the system very quickly.

jdoll - Well lets hope you get a call, and that it doesn't take till August.

FYI everyone, I definitely decided to forgo my seat at NVCC. I really feel that BHSN is the better opportunity, so I am going to stick with my original plan. So to all those who will be attending BHSN, I'll be seeing you in the Fall. :yeah:

NOTHING!!!

im calling in a little..

Aww man! Yea, I'd definitely call the secretary. Ask her if she could double check if your letter went out because you are worried it got lost in the mail. Tell them how long ago u had sent in your application/TEAS material.

Let me know how it goes. Fingers crossed it was mailed out within the last few working days!!

Definitly post what she says because I was assured the last were mailed Tuesday.

Lestelle - Did you receive your letter last week??
