BHSN-Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing Fall 2011

Okay,

I just got my acceptance letter in the mail today!!

I was going totally mental with anxiety, checking this board several times a day to see when people were hearing back, compared to when they had applied and what their stats were. I was also very nervous about how I had done on the TEAS, so I wanted to post my info to help other people a little. Here are my stats:

I applied to the school January 4th, 2010. I took the TEAS January 23rd, 2010.

Previous BA degree in anthropology. I graduate in August of 2009 with a 3.46 cumulative GPA.

I took A&P I last fall, at Gateway: B

Developmental Psych: A

TEAS: 81.2% (mean national was 72.8% and the mean for the program 73.3%)

My adjusted individual scores were as follows:

Reading: 82.5%

Math: 82.2%

Science: 70%

English: 85.5%

In all my nervousness, I called two days ago and was told that I would likely hear back from the in school 4-6 weeks. Then I got my letter today, February 5th. For the record, my admissions essay was based on a CNA training course I took in the fall and I also think that having a previous BA really helped, especially in seeing past that nasty 70% in the science section of the TEAS.

Good luck and I hope this information was helpful, or at least of interest, to some of you!!

That makes sense. Well it's great that it worked out so well for you! :) Thanks! I'm really looking forward BHSN's program. I've heard great things about it. Fall still feels like a really long time from now though.

that soo much for telling me that!! i totally have been thinking that i didnt get in! im still in doubt a little but it makes me feel way better to know that i still have a chance!

NOTHING AGAIN TODAY!!!!

Hey Wannabe,

Word on the street is the very last of us are going out in tomorrow afternoon's mail. Heard directly from the source.

HUGS for luck.

Wow! That is great to know! You must be super anxious now, knowing that you should get it in a few days time. I'm actually anxious for you guys! Try not to attack the mailman! :D Lets see, if they are mailed out tomorrow… you should probably get it on Thursday. I'll make sure to check in on you guys that day.

GOOD LUCK!!!! You should check out your horoscope… may be insightful! :)

i REALLY hope so!! i really cant take it much longer!

my horoscope said nothing really.. just general. i just feel so much better that they arent just sending all the acceptances then all the wait list and then all the denials.. thats what was really making me worry that they went through the wait list already and then then next ones were all just going to be denials.. i clean to de-stress myself so this week i cleaned my whole house like 20 times. i just keep walking from room to room rearranging, sweeping under everything, wiping everything, i organized all the toys in to color bins, then i moved outside and cleaned and set up the patio stuff.. guess its kind of a good thing but i just wish i could sit around and watch all my DVR shows and not have to worry!! haha i love being able to vent here because no one in my house really understands.. like they know that its important but they dont really know... they are starting to just laugh at me and think im going crazy!!

Ok I need some advice. I won't know if I got in or not until Thursday, but I got offered this great summer job that I want to take. The more I work now, the less I'll have to in the fall. Anyway, I'm totally crazy, wored 60 hours a week all the way through my Bachelors degree, and I plan on keeping a limited 10-20 hours per week schedule if I get in this fall. If I take the summer job, I can't take A&P II over the summer. I would have to take it in the fall, everyone tells me that's crazy, but they also tell me taking it in 5 weeks over the summer is crazier.

I've always been really good at time management, and an excellent student so I know either option is possible, just looking for some advice.

What would you do?

Have you thought about taking an online course in the Fall or Spring semester? I would think that having to work more hours in the Fall would be more draining/time consuming for you than taking an APII class. If it were me, I'd take an online APII class during the program, since they are usually easier (ex: online exams) and you can do the assignments at your convenience. No having to worry about spending time on the AP class, or at spending time having to work for that matter, if you have an important nursing exam coming up. However, the online classes are usually much more expensive because you usually have to pay out-of-state rates and you have to purchase software programs for labs.

I'm just completing an online APII course now and all the work I do is a few lab assignments here and there every week or two (super easy, based on software programs), 3 discussion postings per week, and an open book un-timed 4 question matching quiz each week. Then I just spend the 3 days prior to each exam (roughly every 3 weeks since each test is usually on 3 chapters) reading through all the chapters so that the info is fresh in my head for the exam and I don't have to go back and reread. It is an easy A if you do the work and I find that I don't spend much time on the class. You have your reference materials in front of you if you are unsure of a question (some questions are very obscure - the downfall to taking an online exam) and you're allotted 90 minutes for 60 questions.

Let me know if you'd like the class details and I'll send you a PM.

Ladybug5 where did you take your online A&P course?

Alfred State SUNY College of Tech in NY. Let me know if you have any questions.

Hey guys, so I just found out that I also got accepted at Naugatuck Valley's nursing program....ugh! I hate being given the option because although I really want to go to BHSN (accelerated program, high retention rate and potential 2 year contract), NVCC is almost half the cost and it is a 2 minute drive from my house. It is also one of the best CC programs. Ahhh, why couldn't they have just denied me and saved me from all this second guessing! Sigh... So, what would you guys do? I am much more excited about the thought of BHSN than NVCC, although maybe I am not being practical. You tell me... Potentially I would be out working a semester earlier with bhsn and perhaps have my tuition repaid in full if I got offered the 2 year contract, which would make BHSN the cheaper option. Not to mention Potentially being offered a job before graduation with the hospital would be awesome in this economy.

Greetings! I am just starting level 2 at BHSN. I was so grateful that I got AP2 out of the way BEFORE I started school. Especially as things got going. I remember talking to alot of my classmates that were also doing AP2, and it was super challenging, many of them regretting trying to do it at the same time as our first semester. There were those that pulled it off successfully but if you ask them now, they would do it differently. There is so much riding on every exam here that it's nice to not have to split your focus. If there is any way to get it done before hand I'd suggest it. That said, you need to do what's best for your circumstances, either way it can be done. I guess if I was making that decision today I'd rather get the highest grade possible than 2 lower grades. Down the road, it helps with scholarships, jobs, etc. Good Luck whatever you do.
