Okay,
I just got my acceptance letter in the mail today!!
I was going totally mental with anxiety, checking this board several times a day to see when people were hearing back, compared to when they had applied and what their stats were. I was also very nervous about how I had done on the TEAS, so I wanted to post my info to help other people a little. Here are my stats:
I applied to the school January 4th, 2010. I took the TEAS January 23rd, 2010.
Previous BA degree in anthropology. I graduate in August of 2009 with a 3.46 cumulative GPA.
I took A&P I last fall, at Gateway: B
Developmental Psych: A
TEAS: 81.2% (mean national was 72.8% and the mean for the program 73.3%)
My adjusted individual scores were as follows:
Reading: 82.5%
Math: 82.2%
Science: 70%
English: 85.5%
In all my nervousness, I called two days ago and was told that I would likely hear back from the in school 4-6 weeks. Then I got my letter today, February 5th. For the record, my admissions essay was based on a CNA training course I took in the fall and I also think that having a previous BA really helped, especially in seeing past that nasty 70% in the science section of the TEAS.
Good luck and I hope this information was helpful, or at least of interest, to some of you!!
Does anyone know about the English class we need to take before we begin?? I will be graduating this Spring with a BA in Health and Exercise Science and have taken a First Year Seminar class which was basically English Comp but not called that and another writing enriched English class... does anyone know if they are picky about what they accept?? I really don't want to take another class if I don't need to!
i am trying not to think about it.. and i do pretty good until it is time for the mail to come.. and then i check like every 30 seconds.. haha
ksoy-
i am pretty sure its eng 101.. it just has to transfer over as that. the community colleges have a transfer credit book and they might have it online too. they have all the classes and what they are at other schools because they usually arent called the same name even though they are the same content.
Hey Lady Bug 15,
I have a quick question..You may have already answered this question however, if you don't mind, could you share with me all the pre-reqs that you had already completed when applying for the nursing program? Right now I only need to take AP2 and micro.
Hope to hear from you soon!!!! O' By the way, I will love to stay in contact with you when you actually start the program to inform me more regarding the program....I bet that you can't wait to get started!!!! I haven't even applied yet I'm exciting....once we transfer, I plan to apply.
Thanks in advance !!!!!
Hi Nursstud! Lets see… I had just completed chem and AP1, but was currently taking AP2 when I applied. Got A's in both. In terms of general classes… I think I only had public speaking done and the english requirement. I had also had the TEAS exam completed by the time I applied. I'm just finishing AP2 now, and then this summer I'll be taking Micro and CLEPing sociology, psychology and dev. psychology. I also already have a B.S. degree though in Finance, which I think helped. You should be good to go once 2011 application time rolls around since you only have two classes left to take. Are you planning to take them both over the summer? You could always do AP2 in the summer and Micro in the Fall. You don't have to have the co-reqs complete in order to apply. It does probably give you an advantage though over the other applicants who have yet to complete them.
Word of advise, I know apps aren't due till February 1st but I'd suggest completing it as soon as it comes out (beginning of September). I would also schedule to take the TEAS exam on your own as soon as you feel ready to take it because you have to wait 45 days in order to take a retake… so doing last minute does not give you the option. Also, having the TEAS score already complete by the time of your application greatly speeds up the time in which BHSN will get back to you. They accept students on a rolling basis, so if your TEAS exam and application are completed early you will hear back fairly quickly! I think the first replies were before the xmas holiday, which is much better than having to wait till April!
Don't forget that you can always have a testing center proctor you for the TEAS if you can't find a local college to take it at. You just have to have the testing center contact a TEAS representative directly so they can set up an account. Best thing about using a proctor, which I did, is that you can schedule the TEAS whenever you feel ready as opposed to having to take it on a scheduled testing date (which you find and schedule on the ATI website)
I am excited to start… it still feels so far away! I was accepted in mid February, which was close to 7 months prior to the start of classes. As of now, there is 145 days and 20 hours left till the first class begins! Haha… I have a countdown widget on my mac set to the start time of the first lecture.
Feel free to write to me whenever… I'll let you know how things are going. If you also have a Twitter account you can follow my experiences on there. I will be tweeting about everything I'll be going through. Just PM me and I'll give you my username. That goes for anyone else reading this board too that is interested in following me.
Good luck on the rest of your classes.
nothing again...
nusstud- i would defiantly apply as soon as you can. i applied about 2 weeks before the deadline because my application got returned by the mail for not having enough stamps.. and i am still waiting to hear back. it is really driving me crazy expecially because some people already know! if i knew that they accepted people before the application deadline i would have applied wayyyy sooner! i just thought it would all be together once the deadline was reached.
good luck!!!!
