Okay,
I just got my acceptance letter in the mail today!!
I was going totally mental with anxiety, checking this board several times a day to see when people were hearing back, compared to when they had applied and what their stats were. I was also very nervous about how I had done on the TEAS, so I wanted to post my info to help other people a little. Here are my stats:
I applied to the school January 4th, 2010. I took the TEAS January 23rd, 2010.
Previous BA degree in anthropology. I graduate in August of 2009 with a 3.46 cumulative GPA.
I took A&P I last fall, at Gateway: B
Developmental Psych: A
TEAS: 81.2% (mean national was 72.8% and the mean for the program 73.3%)
My adjusted individual scores were as follows:
Reading: 82.5%
Math: 82.2%
Science: 70%
English: 85.5%
In all my nervousness, I called two days ago and was told that I would likely hear back from the in school 4-6 weeks. Then I got my letter today, February 5th. For the record, my admissions essay was based on a CNA training course I took in the fall and I also think that having a previous BA really helped, especially in seeing past that nasty 70% in the science section of the TEAS.
Good luck and I hope this information was helpful, or at least of interest, to some of you!!

you said on an older post you took a clep test for computers for the community college. What was on it and was it hard? What kind of stuff was on it? I am good on computers and took 2 computer classes in high school and really dont want to have to take a computer class in college cause ive heard its a pretty big waste of time.
it wasnt really that hard but it was kind of involved. they have you a disc that had information already on it and you had to change and create new folders and save it. then the second part you had to go into the folders and change the documents in various ways.it was excel word, powerpoint and acess. i did really good on the first three but i guess i kind of took too much time on them becuase i ran out of time on the acess part. i dont really know acess too good either so i might have been able to finish if i did. i was told that you needed a 75% on the test to pass but its a 75% on each section. it was basicly the final for the computer applications class (CSA 105) they give you an outline of all the things that you need to know. i never took a class on them but i know them just from using them. i got 90's on the first 3 and a 60 on the last. i heard that about the class too that why i didnt want to take it. if you took classes you probably know more than me and you will do good!
I'm looking into all the clep exams i need to take as well... I have the REA Clep book for developmental psych and I just ordered the REA Clep book for sociology. I'm thinking that those two classes should be easy to CLEP... only issue is that for some reason I think the school includes your Clep grade in your transript with your overall GPA...ugh! That means I might have to settle for B's on some easy classes that I can get A's in if I just take the course. However, I'm thinking that it would be less expensive and much easier just to take the Clep exams, even if i do get B's. What would you do??
OMG, you are spoiled Wannabe! I'm super jealous, haha! I might just have to upgrade to the 32GB now so I feel better.
Have to run, I just came back home to CT for Easter and my mom is taking me out to buy a new hdtv for my bedroom (moving back home for school). I'm almost thinking it may not be such a wise decision to have the distraction but I'm not going to complain.
Benedicth - Perhaps you could find a cheap online computer class that you could take over the summer. The computer courses are typically a piece of cake. It probably wouldn't take up too much of your time. Just a thought. Perhaps you should take the exam first and if you don't pass you could always revert to the online option.
about the clep tests.. i know at the community colleges if it is for a pre req then it doesnt go on your gpa..its just pass or fail. some higher classes that you need the credit for a degree then the clep does go on your gpa as the counted class as a number(95) not just A or B. i have cleped a couple and they were easy. they are so straight foward that if you study the guide book you will get a A. i did bio and psychology and they were SOO easy! i got a 98% on bio and 95% on psych. the computer i would have probably had an A too if i managed my time a little better. so i would defiantly say if you think you could then do it! it is sooo worth it so you dont have to sit through a class that you basicly know everything about it.
I applied to BHSN in January, but wasn't scheduled for my TEAS until February 27th. I was then rescheduled until March 5 because of the Feb. snow storm. I'm also still waiting for a letter. I called over to the office two weeks ago, but was told Yolanda was on vacation. Since then I've spoken with her and was told that there was a back log of applications, but letters of all type are being sent out daily now. I also heard from one of the professors at HCC who works closely with the BHSN program that they hope to have all letters mailed by April 15th at the latest. However this professor isn't always the most reliable source, as she isn't always accurate.
Welcome Lestelle! I hope to hear back positive news from all of you within the next few weeks! Let us know when you receive your letter.
I just picked up my tax return when I was in CT over the holiday. Now I'll be able to work on getting the FAFSA out this week. I know I can't get any grants since I already have a bachelor's degree, but I'm hoping for some fed support.
Thanks for the welcome. My advice, after filling out the FASFA, is talk to the financial aid office--I also have a bachelors, though I'm qualified through state grants through a very complicated loophole. I've found the financial aide offices from my previous schools have always been very helpful in getting assistance, however, if I get into BHSN I will probably have to get loans. When looking at Stafford loans I ran across some information saying students of BHSN don't qualify. I'll have to verify, but I think that's out.
I hope you find something, but if you don't and you end up having to take out loans, at least you will qualify for a big tax credit next year. :)
Anyway, I'll definitely post when I know, though at this point I'm starting to second guess myself daily because the process is just taking so long.
I'll have to give my mail lady a big tip this year because I think she's starting to resent me waiting for her to drop of the mail at exactly 2:10 every afternoon. Lol.
Hmm, I did talk to the lady at BHSN in the financial aid office. She said the only thing I can get is the federal stafford loans. Funny how different people will tell you different things.
Haha, your poor mail lady. Does she know that you are waiting for an acceptance letter?
Did you apply anywhere else beside BHSN?
No, my poor mail lady has no idea why I'm practically tracking her every move.
That's great about the Stafford loans, I saw the information on one of the lender websites, which is why I wanted to check it. Often some of the lenders will try to convince you that you don't qualify for government aid in order to sway you to private lending, which obviously comes with a huge mark-up on the interest rates.
I only applied to BHSN. Reasoning--It's close to home, inexpensive, I know people who work at BH and went through the program before, and the school has a pretty high NCLEX pass rate. If I don't get in, then I'll apply to NCC and Fairfield U next year. I'm desperate to get into nursing, but it's not the end of the world if I don't get in this year. There were a lot of applicants, which made for stiff competition among many other people who also had excellent credentials, so I don't think I'll feel cheated if I don't get in.
C'est la vie.
It will be great if I get in; if I don't--well I've got an extra year to work on getting some of my debt from my Bachelor taken care of--and I'll keep repeating that to myself while I plow through a pint of Ben & Jerry's.
