Okay,

I just got my acceptance letter in the mail today!!

I was going totally mental with anxiety, checking this board several times a day to see when people were hearing back, compared to when they had applied and what their stats were. I was also very nervous about how I had done on the TEAS, so I wanted to post my info to help other people a little. Here are my stats:

I applied to the school January 4th, 2010. I took the TEAS January 23rd, 2010.

Previous BA degree in anthropology. I graduate in August of 2009 with a 3.46 cumulative GPA.

I took A&P I last fall, at Gateway: B

Developmental Psych: A

TEAS: 81.2% (mean national was 72.8% and the mean for the program 73.3%)

My adjusted individual scores were as follows:

Reading: 82.5%

Math: 82.2%

Science: 70%

English: 85.5%

In all my nervousness, I called two days ago and was told that I would likely hear back from the in school 4-6 weeks. Then I got my letter today, February 5th. For the record, my admissions essay was based on a CNA training course I took in the fall and I also think that having a previous BA really helped, especially in seeing past that nasty 70% in the science section of the TEAS.

Good luck and I hope this information was helpful, or at least of interest, to some of you!!

that is soooo good to know about the letters!! i was scared to call again after the lady was so mean and gave me such a long time frame!

ladybug.. i did take the gen psych one. i used the clep study guide..it was from the clep test website. it was like $10 and it outlined the test and gave a little sample test. i took psych in high school so i did remember some stuff but the stuff i didnt know i looked up online. it was really straight foward and there wasnt anything that wasnt on the outline. the main questions that i could remember were about learning, behavior, development and there were some disorders that were a little more difficult because they asked what would most likely be the disorder given the following symptoms/behaviors. all of them were on the outline though and they were ones that are basic.. like anxiety, personality problems, stress.. hope this helped a little!

Thanks for the info Wannabe! :)

I think I'll order those outlines so I can see if there are any topics that the REA study guide does not cover. How long did you spend preparing for the exam? I'm hoping to get all 3 done before the end of the summer, in addition to taking a Micro class. Wonder which I should start with first... perhaps sociology will be the easiest, so I guess I can start with that.

Just in case anyone is curious, I found out that the graduation and retention rates for BHSN are 91% and 88%, respectively. That is really good...I think that is a lot better than the CC's.

I also just found out that the tentative start date of the program is Tuesday, September 7th.

good to know!! now i just need to know if i'll be starting!! :)

i would say that you would be able to do the psych clep and micro. the micro that you have to take for nursing is the basic micro so you just touch on all the types, the way they reproduce, how they can make you sick and how to treat them. it wasnt bad..just memorizing. a lot of it was information from biology like the DNA/RNA pathways and cellular respiration just a little more specific for the different types. i liked it though because it was the first class that kind of was medical related! :) someone i know did the sociology clep and they said it was real hard and they didnt end up passing it. she said it was a lot of applications of the knowledge and that a lot of the questions could have had 2 answers. she isnt really a person that spends a lot of time studying so that might have been part of it but that is what she told me.

Hmm, I heard that sociology was easy. Guess there is only one way to find out. If worse comes to worse, I'll just have to take a class.

Lets hope for some letters next week!

Just submitted the FAFSA today… fingers crossed for some fed support!

yea that is true. i liked sociology anyways. it was an interesting class. i really loved my teacher.

i know!! i really want mine!! i almost dont even care if i dont get accepted.. i just hate not knowing and not being able to plan. classes upen next week and i want to sign up if i dont get in. i just want to know! it is making me nervous that some students know already and that there are only a couple of stops left! ugghh i just am really driving my self crazy! i scared my mail lady today because i opened the door so fast.. lol

LOL, you should just tell your mail lady that you are waiting for an acceptance letter when you see her tomorrow. At least then she'll realize that you aren't mentally insane! :p

Hmm, perhaps you can sign up for the classes when registration opens with a credit card… then once you get the letter you can always drop them and get the refund. That way you won't have to worry about not being able to get into the sections you want.

In the event you need to take a class for Sociology, I took it at HCC Monday and Wednesday nights. The class is so easy you could sleep through it and make an A. She gave 3 50 question, open note exams, and most of the class was movie watching. The exams are so easy, I never missed a single question. Lol. Anyway, that's my advice--you could do it while in nursing school if you had to because it's no more difficult than just showing up.

Oh, that is great to know! :) Thanks for that tip! If I don't did a good score on the CLEP I may just do that in the Fall.

Any news yet?!?!? It's already close to mid-April!
