Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone applied to Beth Israel NYC for this coming Fall? I applied there and I really want to get in. I always wanted to go. If anyone knows if it's hard to get in, or what score they are looking for on the NLN exam that would be rally helpful. And is it true that the only start giving interviews in May????
Hi guys!! I will be applying to BI for the second time after 3 years. The first time I applied I had a 3.55 GPA and my verbal section of the NLN wasn't that great.I had a 42 on that,77 for Math and 52 for Science.Overall I had a score of 68 under AD.A lady at the school told me I just needed to improve my verbal score.Since then I have obtained my Associates degree in Liberal Arts(3.47 overall GPA) and I have most of the classes that BI requires except for Pharmacology and I heard that I have to retake Math for Meds and Nutrition.I got an A in both at my school but I guess they require you to take those two courses with them. What are my chances of getting in this time around and how can I boost my Verbal score...actually how can I improve my overall score in all 3 sections?? I started studying already and I plan on taking the test in the beginning of next year.Im probably overdoing it lol.Since I have almost all The Liberal Arts courses completed does that mean I'll only be taking Nursing classes or will I have to take extra classes? In other words,do they require you to take a certain amount of credits per semester? Thanks!
Hello Back2Nursing 09, I hope you do well on the NLN and get into PBI for 2010. (If you do, we'll probably take nursing courses together since I am in the three year program.)
A great way to raise your score overall is the Pre-RN Entrance Examination study guide. It's helpful in all three sections and there many practice questions and examinations in the book.
A great and fun way to raise the verbal score by improving vocabulary is to go to freerice.com. It's website powered by the UN that donates rice each time you answer a question correctly and it's super simple to use. There are many subjects to choose (basic math, chemistry symbols, language) but you will want to do vocabulary and grammar. It's great because if you get a question wrong, the program will ask the question again eventually to help you learn it.
For studying extensively into biology and the labs, a great study tool is the Barron's Biology regents book. Be sure it's the large blue version as that is the one that covers all topics. For chemistry, I used Prentice Hall Regents Chemistry review book but they do not sell as it is used for high school students studying for NY state regents. My best bet would be studying from Chemistry for Dummies or going over the review in the RN-PreEntrance exam study guide.
For math, it's pretty simple. But if you are not good in math, the RN-PreEntrance exam study will be the best way.
These are the things I used to study for the NLN. My verbal score was 99%, my math was 99%, and my science was 96%. I had overall 99% percentile and a 152 composite. I hope this helped.
Back2Nursing09,
Another good way to increase your verbal skills is by reading the Times. When you see a word you don't know, circle it and look up the definition. An algebra class at a Cuny school will cover all the math questions asked on the NLN. If you do well in class, the math section will be a walk in the park. Good luck !
Welcome, Backtonursing09!
I know it has already been recommended by other members, but I highly recommend the NLN Review Guide... I had been out of school for nearly three years before I took the exam, and used this as my primary study aid for two months prior to the exam. It definitely helps as it will help you learn the material and also 'train' you for what kind of questions to expect and how to budget your time accordingly.
Good luck!

Hi dtabaria,
You may want to check with the school to ensure that they have your correct email address. Also, remember to always check your spam/junk mail.
