OK Nursing students spill it!

I'm in a LPN program in OKC So here's mine:

The Best: the GI lab at VA Med Center is so fun and they hire LPNs too, At first I wasn't too crazy about looking at people's colon, but it was so cool. U get alot of IV sticks there too. The atmosphere is real friendly.

The Worst: Valir Rehab in downtown OKC, it was boring as H_LL. If u are a CNA u might like it, because it's so laid back and not hetic. But I was bored to death, because after 10a.m. there is nothing to do because everyone goes to Physical therapy.

Here is where I have had my nursing school clinicals so far:

-Med/Surg: Baptist; I really enjoyed my clinicals there, the RNs were great and always something to see.

-Psych: St Anthony's /St Michaels campus is the BEST place for psych clinicals because they have kids to the elderly and ALL types of mental disorders, it was probably one of the best clinicals I have had to date.

-OB: Mercy. I had a lot of fun, the RNs were great and I got to do a lot of hands on skills there and was really involved in labor and delivery and post partum care and the nursery, NICU, etc. Fun, fun :)

-Peds: Childrens, lots of fun with the kids, lots of interesting patients and things to see though certain RNs wont let students do certain skills because they are protective of their patients.

I think that is it so far!

wow Marilynmom! I'm jealous u got all the fun clinical sites!

Miss Kitty,

The worst clinical site I had was at Edmond Medical Center at the bariatric weight surgery center. The nurses were so hateful to the students. Thought I would never outlast that rotation. In fact, I can't think of one good clinical that any of us had at Edmond.

My favorite was at Mercy. I was on the third floor and most of the nurses were just fantastic. Learned so much from a certain CNA. She was a delight and taught me so much about patient care. I will always remember the things she taught me.

Where are you in school?

Mercy and Baptist were both great places, everybody was extremely helpful and willing to explain as they went. Also had a good experience at Midwest City, there were 2 guys there who were great teachers, and one even changed his schedule to make sure he was there when we were.
