Lately, it seems that as a manager, my offers to assist with tasks or learn new roles are being declined. For example:
-Admissions Coordinator: No
-Infection Control: No
-Daily Charting and Other Assessments: Usually no
-Entering orders: No
-Scanning documents: No
Clearly, I am not offering to help with the right things so am wondering what others would actually like help with or what I should be offering to help with
This reminds me. At my hospital they were extremely short of charge nurses once. They had to call some administrative people to come in, granted they are ALL RNs. Not one volunteered to come in. It is not as if they had to pass meds or take a patient, I'm sure they would of gave them an UC.
I don't remember how the hospital worked that out.

Maybe because if the __ hits the fan, you won't be questioned it will be the one assigned to that patient. Responsibility won't fall on you. Most units only need one UC or none at all. Since you have a BSN and you want to help out as a manager I suggest you take on a patient load, maybe 2 or 3.
I worked with a manager who did just that. He kept his 2 patients the entire shift. I do remember that he would complain about RNs not getting out on time for not completing tasks during their shift. He was late getting out with his 2 patients.
Wondering if it is reasonable to agree partially to a request
For instance, this evening the staffer lets me know that they have no AM nurse for my unit tomorrow. They ask if I would come in to pass meds, then proceed to let me know that there would be no replacement until 11pm. I told them that I could assist with morning or evening medications but not both. I explained that if they wanted me there until 11pm or later, I would not be able to come in at 7 am.
I figured agreeing to half of their request was not unreasonable considering I've already worked 45-50 hours in the last 4 days. I do not have the energy to pull another 16+ hours on the floor after this.
I did it as a self-preservation measure because I'm already burnt out from the last few days. Frankly, I'm tired of being taken advantage of because they can't resolve their staffing issues. My body is worn out and my soul is apathetic and angry

What?!
Are you saying, SilverBells, that you want to "compromise"?!
With all due love & respect for you, SilverBells, because you're considering compromising, I've lost all due love & respect for you!

Round and round we go. Ask them. Don't volunteer what you want; ask them what THEY *need* (e.g. open-ended questions).
Good luck.
