Hi y'all,
I'm taking BIO225 right now and the lecture teacher uses lots of power points (which I don't mind because it saves us money from not having to buy a text book).
My problem is that I know I learn best by writing the information down then going back over my notes and possibly writing again. It helps me to better organize the information as well. The only problem with this method is that it's very time consuming.
So I'm trying to find an efficient way to study with power points because I know that many more classes are going to use them.
How do y'all study from PP when you know that writing the information is what really helps you retain it???

I'm going to guess that there IS a textbook for the course, but you opted to not buy it? If this is the case, go buy the textbook.

I don't bother with power points- I just read the book ...and why are you claiming the credential BSN if you don't yet have one?

I just memorize the powerpoints. Usually my teachers stress the most important points on each slide, and then I go from there. Never opened my book once.

Agreed. Please change your screen name OP since you do not have your BSN. It is against the TOS & against the law.

I used the power points to help me zone in on the areas the professor wanted to highlight.
I read the whole chapter, but made my study guides based off the areas highlighted in the power points.
I have my BSN in Accounting. But I changed it anyways since being on allnurses website it is ASSUMED to be a BSN in nursing.
There is a lab book that we are required to have. We are NOT required to have the textbook. I didnt have a textbook for A&P (just powerpoints) and I did just fine. I did write a lot of notes though.
There is no such thing as a "BSN" in accounting. BSN actually stands for Bachelor's of Science in Nursing.
It's completely possible to have a BS in another field, though.
It sounds like you're already doing well and may not need much advice. I would caution you not to focus on powerpoints too much, though ...especially when you get to nursing classes. An understanding of the "big picture" is what will often help you chose the right answer(s). From what I've seen, people who focused on memorizing bullet points instead of reading had difficulty- especially when it came to exit exams and passing NCLEX.

You are right Sour Lemon. Either way, I've already changed my credentials on this site. Back to my studying..... Have a great day.
