Pregnant and in nursing school
Hi Violet, I dont blame you for getting an abortion and I wouldnt regret it either. I was thinking of doing the same thing. I'm just afraid of feeling big and uncomfortable while taking the class. I already feel that way now and get exhausted and in pain easily and need rest often and I'm only 23 weeks. When the class starts, I will be 33 weeks in my 3rd trimester (the time that a lot of women start to take their maternity leave). and the class won't end until I am 39 weeks along. I picture myself going into labor while taking the final exam!!! It just seems uncomfortable. And I'm worried about feeling that way during clinical day each week from 7am to 3pm. It's just overwhelming. It'd be one thing if it was just a lecture class but the nursing class I need to take has a lecture day, a seminar day, and a full clinical day and another day of getting prepared for clinical day. It's just seems like too much for me to lug around this big stomach and do ALL that!!!

Pregnant and in nursing school
I am so stressed right now and wondering if I will even be able to finish nursing school. This pregnancy was unexpected right in the middle of school and caused me to fail a class and have to sit out for 7 weeks due to the shock of finding out and caused me to miss only one assignment (which if you dont do it on time you fail the class entirely). I think I would have passed if I would have only remembered to do that ONE thing! I'm feeling extremely ALONE. I'm having problems in my relationship which is causing me stress and I don't even WANT to be pregnant! I was going to have an abortion in the beginning because I was unsure of this relationship due to other reasons that are a whole other topic but everyone talked me out of it. He did, my mom did, my best friend did. So I decided not to do the abortion but now I'm wondering how to get through nursing school while under so much stress? I can't think straight when my relationship at home is rocky. How will I be able to concentrate and get through these last 8 classes???? My family lives 14 hours away, I dont have any friends that live near me, so I feel ALONE and UNSUPPORTED. Has anyone else had a similar situation? how do you get through it?? Nursing school is stressful enough in itself but I dont want to pass up this opportunity for an awesome career which I will need in order to provide for my 2 kids, especially if my relationship doesnt work out and I become a single mom again I never wanted to be put in those shoes ever again which is why I was so careful for 13 years! My daughter is 13 and her dad wasnt in her life much and barely pays any child support. That caused me so much resentment that I never wanted another kid ever again and here I am pregnant (and not wanting to be) and not happy with the father. Any words of encouragement would be appreciated. Please keep negative comments to yourself. Thank you.

Best way to study from PowerPoints??
There is a lab book that we are required to have. We are NOT required to have the textbook. I didnt have a textbook for A&P (just powerpoints) and I did just fine. I did write a lot of notes though.

I have my BSN in Accounting. But I changed it anyways since being on allnurses website it is ASSUMED to be a BSN in nursing.

Best way to study from PowerPoints??
Hi y'all, I'm taking BIO225 right now and the lecture teacher uses lots of power points (which I don't mind because it saves us money from not having to buy a text book). My problem is that I know I learn best by writing the information down then going back over my notes and possibly writing again. It helps me to better organize the information as well. The only problem with this method is that it's very time consuming. So I'm trying to find an efficient way to study with power points because I know that many more classes are going to use them. How do y'all study from PP when you know that writing the information is what really helps you retain it???

MMR didn't take
Thank you for replying! That makes me feel better. I'll probably have to do the same thing. I have another question if y'all don't mind, Have you ever used the NCLEX study guide book? I'm looking to buy one off Amazon and was wondering if they change a lot from one year to the next. The 2015-2016 book is only $5 and the 2016-2017 is $27. How much can it actually change??

MMR didn't take
I had 2 doses of the MMR vaccine. I also had it as a child. The rubella is still showing that I am not immune. Rubella is the only thing I need to build antibodies to before my nursing program starts in August. I waited 8 weeks instead of 4-6 weeks for the vaccine to fully take and it still didn't. My doctor ordered another dose of the MMR vaccine which I am going to get and try again. Has any one else had this problem? Did your school still allow you to go through with the program?

Getting Discouraged
I have my BS in Accounting and 12 years experience in accounting and now trying to do a career change. I think its harder changing careers than it is to just starting out in it while still right out of high school. Im 31 so going back to school is tough but I just cant stand sitting at a desk all day anymore. I am waiting to get into a nursing program through the community college. I dont start until January 2018.

Getting Discouraged
I'm sure there are many of you who have also gotten very discouraged especially when your name is on a wait list to start the nursing program. My background is I have a BSN and 12 years experience in Accounting and boy do I hate accounting. The biggest thing I hate about it is sitting all day alone at a desk. I am a people person and enjoy helping others and being active all day; which led me to choose nursing as a second career path. But I am just getting really discouraged. I am trying to look for a job doing phlebotomy (since I have my certificate) but I'm not having any luck because I have no experience. I was thinking maybe I should just stick with the accounting for the next year and save money for while I'm in school. Accounting will make more money than working an entry level medical position. What have ya'll done? Is it worth it to gain experience in the medical field before starting the program? Or would you rather save money for the time you wont be able to work? Im also getting discouraged thinking about the hours I may have to work when I get out and just start. Are the hours really that bad? I hear a lot of people on hear complaining about them.

Second-Career Students: How did you decide to change careers?
What did you do in order to work really hard to get "let go"??

Nurses Changing Careers
You can easily find an office job or medical billing. A lot of those jobs only require a HS diploma and alot can be learned on the job unlike nursing where you are dealing with someone's life and need special training. Good luck. Im sure you will easily find something different.
