Best Stethoscope for Nursing Students

Nurses Uniform/Gear

Published

Hello all I recently started my nursing classes and am looking to purchase a stethoscope for lab and clinicals. I wanted to know from your experience what stethoscope is the best for nursing students. I am aware that everyone says LITTMAN is the best but it is also expensive so I would like a less expensive alternative that works great as well.

Thank you for your help.

Good luck to you all this semester.

In my program we got our stethoscopes however; it's the Rappaport/sprague one I believe and we were told we can purchase our own however; I don't know if I want to get a Littmann or a Prestige Medical one and I've read good reviews on both. Secondly, would it be encouraged to purchase my own?

Specializes in ER, ICU/CCU, Open Heart OR Recovery, Etc.

I just bought a Cardiology III and love it.

My nursing school stethoscope was a Littman Classic II, which now resides in my desk drawer but should probably be moved to my work locker for a day that I forget my new one at home.

The new one is a Classic III that I received as a gift. Both are great but they can be expensive, so choose wisely!

When I started nursing school, our school gave us a littman but it was the cheapest one. I couldn't hear well, then I got the classic SE II and still couldn't hear. After I passed boards I bought the cardiology III & for the FIRST time I can hear lung sounds!

Specializes in Float Pool, Telemetry.

I have a Littmann Classic II that my hubby bought me for nursing school. Haven't gotten to really use it too much. However, I just saw some stuff about the Passionate Care scope and am intrigued. I don't really need another scope, but with the praises on how well you can hear, I am wondering if it's worth purchasing. I already have a few other scopes (ADC Adscope Lite, which looks/feels like Littmann, but it way too touchy with sound IMO) I have a sprague too which actually sounds great, but it's heavy and not as cool as my other scopes. Anyway..... I would love to know your opinion on whether its worth purchasing. Can you really hear that much more than what I can hear with my current Littmann? Thanks!

wandering off ..as in getting stolen. lol. mine was stolen 2 weeks ago. i'm so sad.

My CNA program gave me one if you want it, I'm only using my electronic

Would you guys recommend the 3M Littman Lightweight II S.E. or the 3M Littmann Classic II S.E. 28" Stethoscope? Im starting clinicals next semester and need a higher quality one that doesnt break the bank ( nothing over 100$)

Thank you!!!! Looks like it's very good quality :) and for the price I can get a replacement one if need be!

If you do go with a littman go with the cheapest model - that's all you need for nursing school. Plus, nurses and residents will want to borrow your stethoscope and you will have to track them down to get it back. Get yourself a nice stethoscope as a graduation gift and make sure to get your name engraved on it!
