I am a new grad RN and I just accepted a position in the OR. I wore clogs (Nurse mates) for a couple weeks in nursing school and I hated how slow I had to walk in them so I switched to Nike Air Force 1s. The Nikes worked ok for school because we were rarely in clinical over 6 hours but when I worked as an extern for 8-12 hour shifts, my feet always hurt. So, in your opinion, what are the best shoes for working in the OR?
I recently bought C&C clogs and I think I would like them if when I walked my big toe wasn't slamming into the front of the shoe's. I thought that I should get another pair in half a size larger but the heel of my foot is at the back of the shoe where I think it should be so if I get a larger size I am concerned that my feet will slide alot. Any suggestions?
I have been wanting to try Dansko clogs for the last 4 years and finally, I got one for myself this year. I have to agree with most of you that Dansko clogs have great arch support and prevents one from having back pains due to prolonged standing and walking/running. The only complaint I have is that, due I trip (sideways)sometimes with my Dansko and I am afraid that I might get a sprain from that. The shoes are kind of noisy but I am really comfortable with the shoes.
To be honest, I have tried so many different types of shoes and still have not found one that is comfortable enough! Crocs absolutely killed my feet. I have had Dansko's for awhile and they hurt my feet too. I have also tried several types of running/walking shoes and can't find anything I really like. I just suffer with my Dansko's, I don't want to spend anymore money on shoes!
As long as your wearing shoes:) Sorry just had to add this comment after having to tell a dentist that came in to assist/watch a stage 1 implant this week that it might be better to put 'overshoes' over his shoes. He was standing there in his socks, with the overshoes and NO shoes! lol (sorry, bit of a tongue twister).
Maybe he was having trouble deciding which shoes would be best and came to the conclusion that barefoot was the way God intended.
