best nursing positions for men.

Just out of curiousity, for those who are guys, or have friends in nursing that are males what are the most ideal positions (or those guys enjoy most) for male nurses...thoughts, ideas, experiences.. thanks.

One of my male friends loves our busy med/surg unit, the other prefers ICU. It depends less if you are male or female and more on your personality.

My best-male-nurse-friend loved the Med/Surg floor that he was on. Then he loved the ASC pre/post-op routine. Oops, then he went into PACU and loved that too!

Now, he's in the OR full-time and guess what? He loves that!

It's not about the sex. It's about the person and the nurse.

Most, well ALL, the male nurses I know/have known have worked either in the emergency department, the ICU, CCU, became CRNAs, or shoved off for work in the corner office.

What does gender have to do with it? Nurses (male or female) should work wherever they so desire.

Imthatguy is right. ER/ICU/CCU is where I've seen most males nurses in the hospital setting. I'm a new grad RN and know that my long term role will also be in the ICU/CCU. Many male nurses also go on to become professors and hold leadership roles.

As do many female nurses. What is your point?

Gender has nothing to do with it. This is true in most professions. However, since guys by default have different personalities than women their choices (and thinking patterns) are often different. In this case I'm just asking for personal opinion versus the politically correct answer. No pun intended here.

Seriously? Your screen name is 50 cal ? Ha, nice. Big gun there.

Its short for 50 calories. I like to stay fit by creating a 50 calorie deficit for myself for my daily intake.

Absolutely! Women obviously hold all of the positions I suggested as well! Well, my point is that the original post was "Just out of curiousity, for those who are guys, or have friends in nursing that are males what are the most ideal positions (or those guys enjoy most) for male nurses...thoughts, ideas, experiences.."

I was sharing my "thoughts, ideas, experiences" Do you have anything to contribute?
