Hi! I'm also a registered nurse here in the Philippines and I just passed the June Board Exam 2005, I'm planning to take the NCLEX and I'm also reviewing for it anyway I need your advice on this one because I had no idea on this,, my plans for now is to take the NCLEX examination in California(and I know God will really help me pass :) ) and IELTS exams only because I've decided to work in the state of California and I know they only require an NCLEX and an english exam(IELTS) for foreign nurses to work there....that's my plans but is it really ok for me on just to take the NCLEX and IELTS exam or is it much wiser to take the CGFNS as well?
Thank you so much.... God Bless You!!
Hi Rn Faith,
Suzanne and I would have different views...but i always advise nurses to get a CGFNS Cert, pass English Exams, apply for I-140 Employment Based Immigrant Petititon and apply for the Visa Screen.
Wait for a little while, when you get your approved petition get NCLEX...
Much safer to posses a CGFNS certificate if you are a foreign nurse...Even Cali does not require CGFNS you still need to have an SSN to get your hard license...
And if sometime you changed your mind about the State in which you want to work...you will be safe if you have a CGFNS...
There are no shortcuts in obtaining a Green Card....always remember that...

Dear Dale,
I am a new member, this INFO helps a lot!

Ok due to insistent public demand... I will be writing the stages after the I-140 approval. Take note...THIS IS ONLY I-140 GOING FOR CONSULAR PROCESSING!!! Hope I will answer your question Nurse Dependent....Sorry for the late response I was out of town for work and pleasure...1. Ok after I-140 approval USCIS forwards the approved petition to the NVC.
2. NVC "SHOULD" receive your approve I-140.
3. NVC Case will be created.
4. NVC issues DS-3032 CHOICE OF ADDRESS AND AGENT FORM
5. You receive your DS-3032 and fill it up
6. You sent it back to your lawyer/ to NVC
7. Your DS-3032 arrives at NVC
8. NVC enters DS-3032 data
9. NVC issue VISA FEE RECEIPT
10. You receive the Visa Fee Bill Receipt
11. You PAY and send the bill to St. Louis
12. Fee arrives at St. Louis
13. Check encashed by St. Louis
14. St. Louis notifies NVC that you are paid
15. NVC creates your PACKET 3(yehey!!!) BIOGRAPHIC DATA ALSO KNOWN AS DS-230 FORM
16. NVC sends your P3
17. P3 received from NVC
18. P3 mailed to NVC
19. NVC received P3
20. NVC reviews P3
21. NVC sent case to Consulate
22. P3 entered by consulate
23. Packet 4 received from consulate
Packet 4 contains medical appointments, interview appointments, photo requirements or BIOMETRICS
Hope you know the difference between packet 3 and packet 4...
24. Interview Date
25. Approves Visa
26. Fly to U.S. >>>Port of Entry
27. PLASTIC GREEN CARD RECEIVED....
Please still be aware that family members are included with this number, so average number of visas that will actually be for an RN will probably be under 20,000..............At the time there is only a release of this amount, but a date has not been set by immigration. And the retrogression has still not been lifted.
Dear Suzanne,
I felt sad after reading this . and also the reply of Mr. REP.... that actually , the 50,000 alloted visa were good only for those in pocket 3 application, and I am included to the list of new applicant...maybe at the half part of my paper processing, another retrogression will happen...
do you think.. afer the 50, 000....will there be another retrogression?
thanks,
bonbon

Just for a little update, there is now only one state in the US that requires the CGFNS exam for a foreign nurse, only exemption is five years of work experience in the US. Illinois had a requirement of the exam unless the nurse had two years of experience in the US, that has just been changed where the CGFNS exam is no longer needed, only the CES.
Two years ago, I would have agreed with the need to have the CGFNS Certificate, but not anymore. There just isn't any reason to have it anymore.
But I agree 100% with what Dale says about immigration. And please do not even consider coming to the US as soon as you graduate............you will have issues with immigration and will not have time to get approval to even sit for the NCLEX in that time frame. Please take the time to do things the legal way. There are no shortcuts.............
Question:Do you think that we should close this thread since the retrogression has been lifted and the posts are no longer applying to the original post?
Suggest we do since the questions being posted here are not anymore related to the title of the thread. For related inquiries, it can be answered by other threads.
Dale...
I came to know from few of my frinds who had gone for interview in Chennai Consulate saying that by November everything is going to get slow down itseems????
Any clue regarding this. The reason what they say is EB3 is going to be oper from October so that will eventually slow down the proces of EX itseems...
Since this thread about the retrogression has been covered and things are progressing for everyone, it is now time to put it to sleep. Posts are no longer applying to the original topic.
Feel free to post on one of the other topics related to what is now happening or start a new thread. :)
