Best moment of the week so far

Published

Hey fellow school nurses. I know it's only wednesday, but I figure saying something that has gone good so far this week will give us motivation to finish the week. So I'll go first. The best moment(s) this week has been getting a "hello" from the kids. It makes me feel kinda special!! What about you guys and ladies??? Please state your state as well. Thanks!

Had a HS boy come in and ask if he could wash his clothes....apparantly he had his dress shirt and jacket in the kitchen last night when mom was cooking...you guessed it! GARLIC! and he reeked!!!!! So off to the athletic area where there is a washer and dryer we went. His clothes got washed and dried (not ironed I might add!) and then he needed help with his tie (has a hockey game tonight and they dress for games)....then we went to the asst principals office we went where he learned how to knot his tie.

The second graders in my school are learning how to do interviews.... so, of course, they wanted to interview me. :)

I sat with one of the students, and she was clearly very nervous.... but when she found out I had two pet pugs, she suddenly came out of her shell... and told me all about her collie.

I start each day by visiting a diabetic student in a K/1 classroom for a FSBS. My visit usually falls during music time, where the teacher's aide plays guitar and sings with the class. This always puts a smile on my face! I've even been secretly learning how to play a few children's songs that I can suprise the class with.

I work at a district school but it is an early childhood campus (infants through preK). Two best moments this week: one of the teacher assistants telling me that one of the 4 yr old boys is telling everyone he is going to marry me! Another 4 yr old had sand thrown in his eye and was brought to my office. After rinsing sand out of his eye he told me how lucky he and the school were to have a nurse like me.

Crappy pay but moments like these warm your heart and make it all worthwhile!
