Working on the women's and children's floor of my hospital and we are trying to figure out the best medication, best things to give postpartum woman mainly after lady partsl deliveries. Right now we give motrin and T3. Reaching out to see what the best out there is. Thank you!

Are you referring to post surgical, or after pains/nursing cramps, or...?

For the most part we give Norco and Motrin.

After my unmedicated birth with a 2nd degree lady partsl tear, I was given 800mg ibuprofen every 4 hours while in the hospital and continued every 4-6 hrs for about a week at home, and then down to once or twice a day for another week. It worked well with the addition of frozen pads (the hospital used Earth Mama Angel Baby Postpartum Herbs on theirs, while the pads I made beforehand at home had witch hazel, aloe gel, and lavender oil. The Postpartum Herbs were much better). I personally didn't feel like I needed anything else.

We give our post lady partsl birth moms ibuprofen and percocet. Now and then they get a T3 if they don't tolerate percocet. Post c-sections get morphine/dilaudid and/or toradol for 24 hours and then transition to ibuprofen and percocet.

SVD is usually Q8H 800mg Motrin, with PRN tylenol, percocet, or T3 for those intolerant to the percocet.
Our C-Sections get duramorph epidural with toradol and percocet for breakthrough 24hrs after surgery, then motrin/percocet similar to SVD after 24 hours. Some get IV tylenol (Ofirmev) depending on allergies. I'm a big fan of Ofirmev. I feel that it really potentiates other pain medication.

Vag deliveries get 600mg-800mg of ibuprofen. Occasionally, depending on pain, will get Norco 5 or a 10 if they are in severe pain.
Cs is usually Duramorph w Toradol (24 hrs) and the switch to ibuprofen and Norco 10.

We use motrin and t3 for lady partsl deliveries. We use Dilaudid and Torodol until patient gets up from Csection then switch to Norco and Motrin Q4 as needed.

I see a lot of IV Toradol given and I know it works great for c-section pain. We'd love to give it to all sections but were told it interfers with breastfeeding. Any advice?
