Best Hospitals in 2007 - US World and News

Published

u.s. news put 5,462 medical centers through progressively finer screens to create the 16 specialties rankings in the 2007 edition of america's best hospitals. just 173 hospitals made it into the rankings, and of those, a mere 18 displayed the marked breadth of expertise, with high scores in at least six specialties, that qualified them for the honor roll. they are ordered by total points--a hospital got 2 points if it ranked at or close to the top in a specialties and 1 point if it ranked slightly lower (view 2007 methodology).

Emmanuel,

Well, I'll be! I didn't see that one! hahaha!!! They have always prided themselves on being one of the best. May well be for the patients-- not sure about the nurses, though.

It reads as though they didn't make the top overall, but #36 in ortho and #40 in urology. I didn't bother to read how they calculated these results, so I really have no idea LOL.

Rest assured it was some sorta bean counter. They just LOVE counting beans!

I noticed that Johns Hopkins is #1--I also noticed that a lot of travel nurses on this site BLAST the place...Y'all look at the Travel Nursing forum and click on the thread "Hospital Canceled My Contract"

So I guess Johns Hopkins is the cream of the crop when it comes to healthcare? I wonder if the nurses get paid well as well.

congrats to any in all nurses whose hospital made the list

It's like I say, after doing CQI for many years. Numbers don't lie but liars make numbers. Institutions can make ourcomes look almost anyway they want them to look according to the needs, pressure from admin etc... Maybe it's the rebel in me, but I just don't trust what any stats tell me. I go by my own observations and experiences.

Agree.

We, of course, keep the stats for our door to balloon time in my former workplace ER and darn it if we didn't ALWAYS make it in under 30 minutes. (Actually, now I'm forgetting how long but whatever the national standard goal is) Yep, according to those forms, we are #1!

I guess the thinking is a little oops with a pen is worth millions in revenue. What a crock...
