Hello,
I am a nursing student currently living in Minnesota. after graduation....about a year and a half....my husband and I would like to move to Florida. My heart has always been set on Tampa....big, but not too big....low cost of living....right by the water...and of course....hot as he** (which is sooo much better than freezing my buns off for six months of the year)
This spring, he and I will be visiting his grandmother in Sarasota to check out the area, and look into things.
Can anyone tell me about some of the cities...Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Pensacola, etc......the good, the bad....good hospitals, etc. Any information and bragging would be greatly appreciated.:kiss
I would also be interested in making pen pals, and maybe meet some of you when I come out in the spring.
Thank you lots and lots!!

Hello, I m considering relocating to the Tampa/St.Pete/Clearwater area. I was wondering if anyone had any info on how much a new RN would get paid in the area. Also I have a little girl and by the time I get down there she'll just be beginning school. I heard the school system in Tampa sucks, does anyone else know anything about that? Is it true that you have to pay an arm and a leg for Health and Car insurance down there? Any information would be helpful, Thanks!!
Citrus County is the area I want ot move to and I am happy you talked about Ocala and Marion because I think they are right around there. I am happy they have 4 hospitals now. I am thinking about moving there in the next 2 to 3 years I just received my RN, BSN and I want to gain experience here in NY before I move. It seems like they are building alot more businesses and houses in Citrus. I'm only 25yrs old but I like the slow pace, warmth and nice people there :)
Interesting replys here/ I am in Ocala. Ocala is pretty boring but we have 4 hospitals here now. Marion county has some beautiful horse farms if you like that sorta thing. I live in the city, close to everything. It is pretty quiet here most of the time.Yes the pay is less in teh south compared to the north..but nobody has mentioned the fact that Florida DOES NOT have a state income tax.. there fore it really offsets the difference in pay scales. The cost of living is definately less, because half of the year, you dont need air conditioning.. and only need heat for like 2 months out of the year.
Good luck in your search.
you can also check out http://www.flausa.com
there is information on relocation cities there. :)
PS) 3rd shift... you are right on target with what you posted. Though I run into soooo many in my area from Michigan and New York (mostly)
Light,Love,Truth:
Palm Beach county is on the east coast north of Miami and Ft. Lauderdale.
The Treasure Coast is also on the east. It a little further north of Palm Beach and stretches from Stuart through Sebastian, including coastal Indian River county, St. Lucie County and Martin county. Okeechobee county is also sometimes considered part of the Treasure Coast, although nowhere near the coast/water.
Yes, Jacksonville has a lots of places to go I lived there for years.......and now I regret the move i have made. I m now in pensacola, fla beautiful place...........but jobs the pits................ Miss Jax. MartRNDon't count out Jacksonville. I live there and not only are there many hospitals, but the area is really pretty and the city is growing. We have a nice downtown, beaches and the charm of St. Augustine close by.Check out these links for more info...

hello everyone!
i havent had the time to read all previous posts (sowweee.. ) but i just wanna know if there is someone here who is from melbourne florida. my husband and i will be moving there soon. i'll be working at holmes regional medical center and it'll be a big help if someone can give me a brief (or detailed is much better ) "orientation" about melbourne and this hospital. i have checked the internet but hearing it from someone else also matters..
thanks a lot!
I'll be moving to Davanport in September to be closer to my sister, who works at Disney, and need help finding an agency down there. I love doing relief staffing, and prefer LTC to hospital. I'm a "new" LPN, out of school over a year, but only took state boards last March, so technically, I have less than a year of LPN experience. I'd prefer not to drive more than a half hour, and would love an agency that gives you "instant pay" when you need it. Any info would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance guys and girls!

The Swamp (What the locals call the city, home of the FL Gators)
Traffic in G-ville has been increasing rapidly, along with the areas' growth.
Housing prices are good. My home is twice the size of my sister's home in Orlando and a third of the price. Houses start around 90,000 for existing homes and 110,000 for newly built homes.
Crime rate depends on what area you are in.Most crimes are property crimes alot caused by pranks and parties. The City of Gainesville is actually
small in area, the non-students usually live in the communities surrounding Gainesville and the crime rates are lower.
Weather here is hot and humid. We are an hour and a half from the Alantic Ocean(St.Augustine) and a hour and a half from the Gulf of Mexico.
There are numerous natural springs in the area. Great riding trails(horse, bike or walk.)
There are four hospitals in the area. Three are great to work at one should be avoided. Numerous ALFs and rehabs(suprising since we are a major university town.)
Just like anyplace there are great things about it and some not so great.
Ocala is thirty minutes south of us.
If you have children and are interested in moving anywhere in FL go to the MyFlorida web site and request a copy of the state's Blue Book. It gives all the information you need to make sure that your child attends a good school.
The book breaks down ever public school in the state. You can find out the schools achievement scores, special programs, charter programs, student crime rates.
