Best Field Of Nursing

what do you think is the best field of nursing? ICU, OR, TELEMETRY, WARD, ER, HEMODIALYSIS, NURSERY, PSYCHIATRIC etc..

ICU, haha, cuz thats where I work.

Seriously though, its all very subjective and individual.

I like nursery best but a lot of people do not. I have no desire to be in ICU, ER, psych, dialysis, nor OR.

why dont you like in those areas? is it because of the stress or you just simply love working with neonates?

There is no best field of nursing. There are many opportunities within the nursing field, it just depends on where you want to be.

I think maybe postpartum or newborns! My favorite areas during nursing school. Unfortunately I do not work in either area because of where I started (med-surg, tele) and I would receive a pay cut:( I definitely can't stand ICU which is where I work now. Cleaning up excrement, heaving around people who are 250 plus pounds along with codes, mulitple drips and hysterical family (rightly so at times) are not my idea of fun!! Hopefully I will find my niche!

I wonder if circulating in surgery is stressful?? I think it is really all subjective to each person's preferences.

Psych nursing in the best.....I like helping the mentally ill, challenging at times but very rewarding.

The ER has been fun so far. I'm working on gaining my experience, punching the right tickets and aquiring all the alphabet soup to get into flight nursing. I think that would be a heck of good time!

It's a personal decision as to what's best...

The best area is the one that "works" for you!

Ideally - find challenge, respect, satisfaction and rewards!

The BEST thing about nursing - ALL the OPTIONS!!

I vote for FLIGHT and TRANSPORT!!!

there's no such thing. it's like ice cream. everyone has a different favorite flavor. while you may like heath bar crunch, i'm going to stick my tongue out on that one! but all the same, the idea of periop might gag you!

and, like ice cream, nursing allows you to change flavors!
