The east coast provinces are very nice, with very friendly people! Everywhere you go seems to have a small town atmosphere. There are however a few "bigger" cities, Moncton and Halifax for example are great places to relocate. The Pay rates can be seen in cross- country comparison of wages, but are standard, and considered to be good. There are also a lot of job opportunities depending on your area of interest. Just my two cents!

As someone who lives in the High Park area of Toronto with four kids and a dog, I have to throw my hat into the ring and say that Toronto is a very nice city to live in if you enjoy cultural activities, people who don't all look alike, ethnic foods, amazing teaching hospitals with cutting edge technology, world class performances, beautiful hiking and jogging trails and over-all a racially tolerant city. If these kind of things don't appeal to you then by all means pass Toronto over.

You really have to sit down and decide what you value as far as life-style and community when you are deciding where to locate yourself in Canada. its a huge country with amazing places. I currently live on the west coast on Vancouver Island and its the lifestyle that I love here. But real estate and rentals can be difficult to come by and expensive when you do. I like that its close enough to Vancouver that I can go to events and only need to stay one night.... and that a quick trip gets me to Victoria.

On the other hand, I have lived in Northern Ontario, loved the job, loved the financial benefits of working federal but found the isolation a bit much after 2 years.

I have visited the east coast recently, its beautiful out there too, with a dynamic life-style, the wages are not as high, but the cost of living isn't either.

So sit down with a big map, talk to your significant other, figure out whats important to have close and what you can do without .... all the provinces have great things going for them, and some things that will not appeal to you.

I live in Alberta, all my life. I llike it. Calgary is a nice city. Very close to the mountains if you liike great skiing, hiking and camping and other outdoor stuff.

I agree with 5 cats. It depends what your preferences are rural, city, local culture, provincial culture, what you want from your life/work. I'm not sure the wage differences, but 5 cat's noted stickies above.

Good luck!

I have just moved to Toronto from Australia - we love it here and people are ultra accomodating! Very friendly.

I think that how you find people is related to your attitude. If you are friendly people will respond in kind.

BC, Alberta and Ontario pay the best

Nurses are unionized in each province so all cities in that province pay the same. ( except for Quebec, for some reasons their pay rates are low)

Because nurses are unionized there is wage parity across the country. However, BC and Ontario have the highest cost of living.
