hi to all my fellow nursing students,
just curious.. besides drinking coffee, what else do you do to keep energized during the day/night when you have to study?
any input would help...thanks!

Hey there,
I'm not a nursing student anymore, however i just finish completing my advanced diploma in Nepro - Urology. I just want to share!
The 2 things that help me to keep me energized and awake besides coffee is chocolate and sugared tibits. i think naturally because our CSF (cerebral spinal fluid) mostly uses glucose as a medium for chemical reactions, we should ensure that we have adequate intake of it.Hehehe.
Hope this helps.

I hate studying in quiet so I use my mp3 player. to stay motivated and alert. The only thing I would say about that is don't pick songs you are going to want to sing and dance to and forget about studying :-)

What works for me is taking a break now and again...of course not taking excess breaks for too long! But I normally study for hours and hours at a time (3 hours or more), so I find that taking a 15 minute break usually keeps me refreshed enough to keep going.

I try to take a short break every 45 minutes or so.
I usually have a snack handy (chocolate or popcorn)

And I switch off between reading, going through flash cards, typing notes - just to mix it up. Otherwise I start to doze off or just lose concentration.

I just got out of school but I would take my dog for a walk around the block.. took about 15 minutes, got me away from my house and cleared my head, and helped my dog from going insane!

The other day I was completely exhausted, so I took a bath. That may sound crazy, but I actually felt more energized when I got out, and I was able to do another 3 hours of studying.
thank you all so much for the input
this weekend i studied really hard, and got to cover tons of material thanks to all your advice.

Make the time for 15 - 20 minutes of vigorous cardio a day. Clears out your head and wakes you right up.

Well, in addition to the numerous caffeine packed beverages I keep stocked, running a few miles at a good pace before sitting down to study always keeps me going for the night.

snacks with protein :) - also recommended before you take a test (peanut butter and apple slices or a bagel, protein bar, nuts (I love honey-roasted almonds))
