Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!
Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.
Thanks!
Hey everyone just checking in to see how you all are enjoying your summers!...did everyone get their books? if you did where did you buy from? I need to buy them and I think i will buy one year older so they may be a little cheaper...i'm still waiting on this loan to go through! anyone else waiting for their financial aid/ or loans to process?
ArisMommy, I ordered all of my books from Amazon. I did some searching online and prices did not vary too much, so I figured it would just be cheaper to get the free shipping than order books from different sites and pay seperate shipping charges. Earlier this summer I emailed the proffesors to confirm that we could use older editions but I never heard back. Angie at the nursing office said it was because most were on vacation and they will not get back to me until the Fall. I decided not to wait, but I did get the current editions, used when available. I will be using these books for 2+ years so I thought it was worth the cost.
I also heard back from financial aid and they denied any assistance because I already have a Bachlors in another area. I don't understand why, that doesn't change the fact that I need to pay for this degree. I wouldn't be able to work full time with the course load and also take care of my daughter.
I also ordered the uniforms 2 weeks ago but did not recieve them yet. Does anyone know if we were supposed to also order all the other stuff on the order form, shoes, bandage sissors, etc?
Can't wait to meet everyone at the orientation. See you soon!
jgt9 I also have a bachelors degree, they should have told you sooner that you would not be able to get assistance. You can get loans but most of it will be the type you have to pay back... I am in the same boat as you I will be waitressing 4 nites a week and taking out a loan as well to support my daughter.
I think i will order from amazon also, my oldest brother just got a job with them so hopefully I'll get a discount haha.
I got a stethascope kit at the uniform store because they did not sell them separate. I think that's the only other think we need to get besides the kit we order from the medical supply company
I too cant wait to meet everyone!
I ordered a littman stethoscope from allheart. Everyone that I know, even doctors use littman and say it is the best one. Plus it's cheap. Since I'll be using it for a couple years, I didn't want to buy something that wouldn't last me. The stethoscopes from belle uniform seems as if they wouldn't last, they looked like stethoschopes from high school so I didn't get it. Only a couple weeks til orientation :)
okay, gearing up for level 2. Question - I'm taking cardio during the first half, do we keep the same clinical instructors during the whole semester or do we change when I take GU/GI during the second half. I hope I get to go to a teaching hospital like Hackensack. Last semester I was at Valley and it is a private hospital. Seems like the sutdents in Hackensack experience more that I did.
Good luck in level 2! You switch clinical instructors for each half of the semester. You get about 5-6 weeks of clinicals in Cardiac and same for Gi/GU. I think what you learn depends on the instructor, not on the hospital. It all depends on how much you put into it. Some people hang back and some get right in there.

Fisherman,
I am so sorry to hear that-- my dad's cousin has Alzheimer's and his wife just passed away last month (colon cancer) and he doesn't even remember that's his wife. He told his children (adults) what a shame that old lady died, she looked sick. It's fascinating how a disease can take over one's mind and health. I just wish there were cures for everthing and not 20 different cures for one disease.
Me, I am not in any level yet. I was accepted to MHSON--2012. I am stalking Bergen's change of curicculum but that hasn't been posted yet. I feel like if I don't get in I will just do the LPN for this yr and get my RN. I can't just wait around and waste another year. I actually was thinking of applying to OCC too. My fiance and I would love to relocate to South Jersey. I just love the beach and feel blah when I am surrounded by green trees..lol.
I will keep your family in my prayers and remember the reason why you first wanted to be a nurse. It takes a special person to give up their dream and do what they need to do to take care of their family. These days you won't see that much. I hit bottom in the beginning that's why I am back in school now. I stopped school before because my mother suffered from a massive heart attack. She survived but I needed to be there for her. We only have one life and if I can take all her pain away and take it on I would.
Take each day as it comes, one step at a time. Be patient as we all know ou have.
