Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!
Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.
Thanks!
i just dropped off my letter this morning at the medical office. i guess they haven't updated my status yet. my status is still holds: hahnu when i tried to view my evaluation. hopefully by tomorrow they would have updated me. how long did it take for you guys to get accepted after you sent in your acceptance letter?
hey earlm, as i mentioned to gabby earlier, you should speak with elsa in the nurse registration dept. she should be able to help you. i'm not sure what that hahnu hold is about.
I'm still not able to register. I left a message for Elsa but I assume she is very busy. I will try again today. If I don't hear from her today then I will do what Newstart did and just go in with a copy of my transfer credits.
DaddyO- thanks you so for recommending Tuition Pay. I set up my payments on Monday and I'm set to go. It was a huge financial relief to pay monthly rather than max out my credit card. Thanks again. Missmoone-look into it if you haven't already :)
This may be a silly question but do we have to wear our uniforms for lectures? No, right? it's just for clinicals??
Does anyone know what's in the nursing kit? If I'm going to spend $115 dollars for it, I'd like to know what's in it! lol
Hey guys. Congrats on getting if if I haven't said it already. About the uniforms, NO you dont have to wear them to lecture. Technically, they are supposed to be worn in the lab, but our professors told us that as long as no one comes in dressed inappropriately, we can go in dressed down. We actually had to wear our uniforms for a couple of days while in lab because the program was going under review. We were told the policy will be changed eventually. So, more than likely, you won't need that thing until you start clinical, about 6-8 weeks in. However, if the policy still has not changed or your professor requires them for validations(don't personally know of one who does), then you may need them sooner.
As for the medical kit, it comes with the supplies you need for your validations and skills practice. It has IV bags(no you won't be inserting an IV, I flipped when I saw that lol), tubing, syringes, vials of "medication" to draw up, gown, mask, sterile field equipment, items for a dressing change, a bulb syringe for NG and PEG validations, a disposable penlight, etc. I think the packet y'all recieved may have come with a list if I remember correctly.
Also, before I forget to add this in at one point, get yourself a clipboard for clinical. One of my classmates had one with a calculator attached to compute IV drip rates, but depending on your math skills, you may not need all that. All of those who didn't have a clipboard on day one caved and had it by day two. They are relatively inexpensive, and can come in handy in lab too while you are going through the checklist. I put labels on mine with common lab values that I hadn't memorized. Once I have those down, I can peel them off and add other handy information to it for quick reference.
Lastly, the care plan book. If you can, avoid the one they sell in the book store. (carpenito-moyet) It's not very helpful. I recommend Gulanick/Myers. I borrowed this one from a friend, and loved it. The library has ones you can borrow, however when you do your Nursing Care Plans you will be already in clinical( pick a patient right away, btw), so you will be on campus only two days a week, so you have to plan accordingly.
I'm on section 601 too! Look into tuitionpay.com You can pay as you go. I decided to to it this way because it's a big financial burden to dish out $2200 at one time. I set up my account before I registered which I now realize was not a good idea. Make sure you put it the exact tuition amount.
Moojie-thanks for the info. I will def pick up a clipboard and the recommended care plan book.
What date do we need to get the uniforms by? Do we go in ourselves to get fitted and how long does it take for it to be ready? I'm paying so much money so im trying to save up for the uniforms.
i got the varicella titer today and it cost me $100 since I dont have insurance. does anyone know if this is the usual cost?
Newstart, I am pretty sure you won't need the uniform before clinical, but don't quote me on that. We needed it earlier because the program was under review for a couple of days, but from my understanding this process only happens every few years. Ask your professor. Also, everyone I know ordered the uniform in person. I got mine the day after the letter came because I knew they would be very busy later on in the season. The area doesn't have much parking, so if someone can drop you off that's a plus. It's in downtown Paterson. And the reason I recommend going in person it because the uniforms run a little large and the pants will likely have to hemmed. Also, get a few o the name tags in case you loose one. Don't buy your stethoscope from there. Super expensive. Allheart.com has some great deals as
someone on here mentioned before. Mine is a Littman, and I love this thing:)
I purchase my 4 books at amazon. I'm guessing the ones I purchased are the main books. I'll wait until class to see which others books are recommended by the profs. The total was $219 shipped
Physical / Health - Jarvis 5th ed (hardcover) $65
Calculate - Gray - 5th ed (paperback) $56
Pharm - Key - 6th (paperback) $45
Fund of Nur - Potter - 7th ed (hardcover) $53
okay, this is completely not about nursing, but I was wondering if anyone has tried the seafood paella at a restaurant called meson madrid in palisades park, nj.
I'm doing a spanish project on spanish speaking countries in class. I have to present for 10 minutes on some facts on the countries. I was thinking of bringing seafood paella. My class has 16 people.
I was thinking of ordering one seafood paella and just getting little bowls and spoons so each of them can have a spoonful or two. I know the paella feeds 2-3 people, but do you think it will be enough just to get one for the class so they can just try it out?

I thought it was weird that we had to send the acceptance form in the green envelope since the envelope was addressed to the health offices. they only deal with our health forms. so i brought the form in person to the b302, the secretary told me there was a mistake because we were supposed to get TWO envelopes. she told me to bring it to c102 and i handed it straight to elsa ( the one who sent us the acceptance emails). i was able to register within an hour.
