Bergen Community College Nursing Program Question

Published

Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!

Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.

Thanks!

DAY programs start in the fall and the EVENING starts in the spring. If you only need to take wex this semester then you should apply for the day if you haven't passed the deadline. The school takes the top hesi scores and if you're not included among the accepted list, you will have to apply and take the hesi again, but you would have to wait for the next semester-either fall or spring.

and the long wait is what sucks sometimes. be it for the exams or if one does not pass a class. you have to wait darn near a year to try again.

Does anyone know about the vaccinations I need to take for the health forms? I'm going to a new doctor tomorrow with my immunization record from my old doctor when I was younger. I know I will find out tomorrow but just in case. The doctor will probably know what I need correct? because when i look at the form, its confusing. there seems to be a lot of vaccines I need to take.

Like I know I have the two does for MMR.

For hepatitis B, do you know if it expires? I got the 3 series Hepatitis b shot when I was much younger in the year of 1993 so its been 17 years. do i need to take another series or am i fine? does hepatitis b shots expire?

theres this part where it says center for disease control recommends:

i have the tetorifice, but it says meningitis but meningitis is not included in the mandatory portion, so i dont have to get this shot right?

how long does the varicella blood test take? it says attach copy of lab report. how long will this take?

im just so worried

woohoo. I dropped of my acceptance letter today at the medical services located by the gym. They are going to interoffice it to the admissions. Hopefully they'll update my status by tomorrow so that I can register for my classes. Looks like a couple of people already registered. See you guys in class.

I wonder if I can register to take the HESI at a proctored center and pay for it out of my own pocket and submit it to the school? I know for the TEAS a lot of schools accept that. Wouldn't hurt it by asking.....

Hey Newstart! No need to worry, the vaccinations are simple. I had all the shots BCC requires but my doctor did the titers because I was having routine blood work anyway. Hep B shots don't expire and neither does the MMR. However, in some cases, our bodies don't produce antibodies and that is why BCC requires titers (just to make sure you have the Hep B and MMR antibodies) Call Health Services and ask if the vaccinations are enough or if they require the titers regardless of vaccination history. (I called this morning with a question on the PPD and they picked up right away) I had the Meningitis vaccine in 2001. During that time period they wanted college students to receive it if they were dorming. I don't think it's mandatory. And lastly, I got my titer results within a week. I just had my doctor's office fax it directly to me. Hope this helps :)

Hey all! I tried registering for classes but it says I require to be enrolled in pre-reqs before I can register ??? That's weird because all my transcripts have been evaluated and accepted. Does anyone know who I should contact?? Registration? Admissions? Nursing Dept?

That happened to me as well. call Elsa in the Nursing admin department and let her know. She has to manually override that. She explained to me that "the system doesn't recognize transfer credits" so when you try to register it'll state that you have pre-req's to complete. I'll pm her direct line to you. Chances are she won't answer, so leave a detailed message with your contact number & student id# and she'll return your call promptly.

thanks missmoone!! i got nervous for a moment :)

hi Gabby820,

same thing happened to me. i was in school when i tried to register so i printed out a copy of my classes that were transferred and brought it to the registration office. i was able to register within minutes.

what is everyones schedule??

i just dropped off my letter this morning at the medical office. i guess they haven't updated my status yet. my status is still holds: hahnu when i tried to view my evaluation. hopefully by tomorrow they would have updated me. how long did it take for you guys to get accepted after you sent in your acceptance letter?
