Bergen Community College Nursing Program Question

Published

Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!

Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.

Thanks!

DaddyO,

Thanks for your quick response! I appreciate it very much! Good luck with all your studies. How long did it take you to get accepted in their program? I just registered for WEX...YEAH! Someone dropped out so I quickly grabbed it!

Wow!! Thanks for all the input! I appreciate it so much! Good for you, your score was fantastic! I just want in ASAP, I can' believe how hard they make it when there is such a high demand.

I took the A&P classes on Saturdays

Chemisty was a Hybrid class

the Social and Pysche courses were done online. I did this year round and it took about 1.5yrs.

Listen, if you have to take any of the classes above during the times I have mentioned, I can PM the Profs that I took. Actually, I listed them all in one of my replies here.

great profs that I learned a ton from. And keep in mind, that I never had any of the sciences while in college (Bachelors in Risk management with a concentration in Actuarial Science and Finance),...with the exception of Math and Physics. B+ was the lowest grade I received. Check ratemyprofessor.com before registering.

I have no idea, but I'm sure as hell going to have to make it work. I want it bad enough to do so. I also have bills to pay so essentially I have no choice BUT to balance school in the evenings and a full-time day job

You can do it. I had to work. I have a wife with a spending problem and two daughters with my oldest thinking that the only stores on earth is Nordstrom, Hollister and Forever 21.

I shop at Old Navy.....hehehe

you will be done before you know it.

We are in the same boat. I just purchased my books--$358, some used and some new  Not to mention I just paid for my CPR class and . Unfortunately, working full-time isn't an option for me-it's required to get through the program. I'm sure we'll all get through it!! Even though I'm dishing out so much $$ for school and I probably won't give out any x-mas gifts this year :( I'm really excited to start the program!!! :)

If you have to pay your own tuition....consider Tuitionpay.com. they will allow you to pay in installments.

and oh...whatever you have around your house, in the basement or in the attic....that you have not touched in one year + ....can I suggest: www.craigslist.com

hehehe

*** FOR THE HESI A2***

I studied the hesi study guide that was in the library. I know some people said the book was useless, but I thought it was helpful. I had to take math, bio, chem, grammar, vocab, and reading comprehension.

Math- study guide was very helpful. a lot of ratio questions, conversion (gallons to ounces, how many kilometers in a meter, etc), some word problems, addition, subtraction, multiplication, few fraction. if you study the math in the study guide, you will do fine.

Bio/chem- hesi study guide. I also borrowed barrons nursing entrance book and studied the bio/chem portions.

reading- very easy

vocab- a few words came from the list of words included in the study guide

grammar- was fairly easy too

some people did well without studying at all, but I think it's good if you look at the study guide and a few nursing entrance exams. practice the questions, complete practice exams.

let me know if you have any questions

ha!ha!.. Old Navy is awesome!!!!.. good thing I'm not a fashionista... otherwise I'm sure I'd be in trouble financially..

thanks for the pep talk.. I'm going to have to make it my mantra for the next couple of years!!!.. I see you're skipping the BSN and going straight for the Masters... Don't give me any ideas man!!! :lol2: but kudos to you:up:

I hear you Gabby, with all this money we're spending and more we better ace this program!!. I buy stuff for my loved ones all year round. I don't buy into the "spend money on gifts for a one day celebration". I'm buying my books one by one. I'm wondering if it's worth renting any of them, even though I'll need to refer to them for basically the rest of my career:idea:

for the evening program, what time and days are the clinicals?

for the evening program, what time and days are the clinicals?

Mon and Tues: 610pm - 930pm - Lectures

Weds and Thurs: 530pm - 1030pm - Clinicals

LOL... you are too funny! I personally steer away from those stores! Too much mula! I have all my pre-reqs done except for WEX but am enrolled for spring. Ii just need in either day or night, it doesn't matter. Would you happen to know if you can retake the HESI entrance exam, if one doesn't like their score? That would be great!
