Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!
Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.
Thanks!
Hi newstart,The course itself I believe is 8 hours. Some are the full 8 hours and some are broken up into segments over a few days. Does anyone know if all students accepted received emails today or if there are still emails waiting to go out?
I was wrong. The classes are about 4.5 hours. Sorry about that.
For those in the evening program or know about the evening program:what times are usually the classes and clinicals?
i have a job and i end at 4pm monday-friday. i was wondering when the clinicals are and also if working will be too much while i study
The evening classes start at 6 pm M-Th.2 days of lecture and 2 days of clinicals. I think 4pm end time gives you enough time to get to school, provided you work in Jersey. I will be working too except I work in Manhattan. Instead of my 6pm end time, I will be leaving at 4pm. Good thing my boss is a BIG advocate of continuing education; he is more that willing to work around my schedule. I am very lucky. However, I am also wondering if working and studying will be too much to handle. I guess the only way to find out is to try it out. I wish you luck! I wish everyone who got in lots of luck!
Oh! and I hear clinicals start 6 weeks in. I believe, I could be wrong, we can either be placed at Hackensack or Valley Hospital.
p/s---Was that email recall a scare or what?!?!?! My heart dropped!! Thank God it was a mistake!
Congratulations to all who got into the program!
Will the acceptance packet tell us what text books we need or do we choose from the books listed under the course content? What vaccines do we need? I will be away all weekend so I am not getting my letter until Monday. I am feeling stressed out with everything I need to do for my current classes and trying to make the time for what needs to get done for the nursing program. BUT it's a happy stress!!! (seeing the recall message definitely was not a happy stress)
Thank you all for for taking the time to help out all the students trying to get into the program! ukgirl7655, DaddyO and all the rest, your insights are invaluable to all of us anxious students entering the program. Thank you!
Happy THanksgiving all!!!
Hi Kami!!!!!
I was looking at the times and dates from the american heart association as well.HOW COME THE LENGTH OF THE CLASSES ARE DIFFERENT? SOME CLASSES ARE 3 HOURS, OTHERS ARE 4, AND SOME ARE LIKE 5-6 HOURS?? I SEARCHED UNDER BLS Healthcare Providers AND THE LENTH OF THE TIMES ARE DIFFERENT. AM I SEARCHING FOR THE RIGHT COURSE??
The one I'm taking is $75... 4hrs total

Hi Kami!!!!!
Hi brena!!! If you go on the school site and go to the nursing page it says Nursing packet.... the packet has a list of all the books we need, we can choose one of 1 for a lot of them.. i've already decided which ones i'm going to buy. Not sure about the vaccines as I think they will be in the packet they send. Waiting to see what the packet says. Will email you when I get it so you know. Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Lectures are on Mon and Tues and start at 610pm
Clinicals are Wed and Thurs and start at 530pm.
You will not start clinical right away....and have lectures on Wed and Thur until it starts...but you will still need to be in class by 530pm.
I work in NY. during my lecture days i get in at 645-7am. during clinical days I get in 6-615am...this is so i can leave ontime for class.
I also work as a CNA on weekends. I did an Externship and they asked me to stay.
I have two young daughters.
My point here is that if you want this bad enough, you will find the time to study despite the busy schedule.
I have a blackberry...and I email all the lectures to my phone, to read on the bus/subway, during lunch, in the bathroom, just whenever I have any down time. The library is open on weekends to fill in any gaps.
Its doable, but again if you are having any challenges...speak to the Profs and see if they can offer any suggestions.
