Bergen Community College Nursing Program Question

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!

Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.

Thanks!

hi Italy,

Yes that's what you choose, but it's also important that you choose student (option) below it. All in all it should be quoted $35 (and change)

i thought we were supposed to get the one for student nurse since we are just entering the nursing program? maybe i read it wrong?

oh.. o.k .. well Im sure you'll have plenty of time. They did say that certification is given the day of when completed. Also the class I'm going mentioned that I can pay the day of the class. Wow!! that sucks that you can't get your $$$ back

MISSMOONE--I signed up for the American Heart Association's BLS for Healthcare Providers at the Wayne first aid squad as well, but it's this coming Monday. I'll let you know what to expect.

DADDYO - I have 3 boys, two of them under 5, and I understand how challenging life must be for you sometimes. I admire your determination for getting through the program and I double thank you for taking the time to help out everyone!

Kami, you are an angle and I am so happy we are going to continue on this next journey together!

Hi Brena,

I am doing December 31st 8:00am - 1:00pm - $80.00 in Fairfield. For the NSO I clicked on Professional and the drop down said Student Nurse.... I assumed that's what we were to get but now I'm not sure... does anyone know for sure?

Have a great weekend!!! See you next week!!

When you're choosing the options .. there is a choice for student, but that 's after you choose your profession or area of study, which in our case would be ( RN).. I copied an example from the website....

"2. Select your profession or area of study.

Please select the healthcare profession for which you hold the highest credentials or standards appropriate, as mandated by your state statutory guidelines.

If you are a student, and do not currently hold a healthcare license or certification, please select your primary area of study. "

Thanks for the breakdown DaddyO. I work as a Medical Assistant in Manhattan and I also start real early. I know the feeling of getting up early.... Do you find certain aspects of the program easier because of your work experience as a CNA?

And I agree with your statement, "If you want this bad enough, you will find the time to study despite the busy schedule." I want it REAL bad so I'm willing to work really hard for it. Thanks again for your helpful information.

I just started as a CNA in August. I did an Externship from June - Aug, and was kept on as a CNA. I work on 27th Street in the Financial Industry (with the hopes of quitting in February) during the day but yes, my CNA experience helps big time with Clinicals and the Lectures/classroom helps my understanding of what I see/seen as an Extern.

Not coming from a medical background I found level 1 to be the most challenging. some of what may have seemed to be common sence, may not have been the Nursing way to do it. So I had to put my previous thoughts to the side...and think more like a Nurse. there is an order of operation / prioritizing thing that will be learned if you don't know it already.

After I got into this groove of thinking like a Nurse, the work became more manageable. with respect to time management, you will have to sacrifice a lnice amout of family and personal time. but understand this is only temporary and not forever.

Also, there are JUDY MILLER Nursing tapes/disc in the library....another extremely helpful resource to rely on:

brena3-

are you taking the cpr class in wayne? i tried registering and it says it's full.

do you get close to your nursing class? i don't know anyone in BCC and i would love to make new friends.

I just received my acceptance letter in the mail. I know most or all of you prob have health insurance, but I don't, and I'm required to purchase one. Does anyone know affordable health insurance? Any information would help me a lot because I cannot afford a lot of things even though health insurance is vital. Also, for the vaccinations and checkup, it's been awhile since I've been to a doctor. I think the last time I went was more than 5 years ago. I'm trying to switch to a new doctor, do they transfer over any health documents? Do I have to pick them up myself or the doctor faxes them over? Do I go to a regular family physician now? When are these health forms due?

Hello everyone,

I just got my acceptance letter yesterday, exciting and nerve-racking all at the same time. It is good to hear that there are many of you who plan on working while participating in this program. Good luck everyone!

I hope that my experience helps me too. I have worked in the medical field for quite sometime and have experience in vital signs, venipunture, triage, EKG, vaccines and currently I'm a Certified Podiatric Radiographer. Even though I have this experience, I'm still very nervous of making mistakes. I'm afraid I may of picked up some bad habits along the way and it will make it harder for me during the program. For example, when performing venipuncture, I cut a small piece of the glove that covers my middle finger to better feel and anchor the vein. I know I will be crucified for doing something like that during clinicals. I just hope I can change these bad habits sooner rather than later. I need the learn the 'Nursing Way'

I will check out the Nursing Tapes you suggested!

I hope you succeed in this rewarding career and I wish you lots of luck!!
