Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!
Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.
Thanks!
I just received my acceptance letter in the mail. I know most or all of you prob have health insurance, but I don't, and I'm required to purchase one. Does anyone know affordable health insurance? Any information would help me a lot because I cannot afford a lot of things even though health insurance is vital. Also, for the vaccinations and checkup, it's been awhile since I've been to a doctor. I think the last time I went was more than 5 years ago. I'm trying to switch to a new doctor, do they transfer over any health documents? Do I have to pick them up myself or the doctor faxes them over? Do I go to a regular family physician now? When are these health forms due?
if i purchase a health insurance, does it cover the doctor visits and vaccinations required by the school? someone please help me..

Hey Italy! Congrats on making it in! As far as health insurance is concerned, it is very expensive. I don't know what your financial status is but I would apply for some type of state health insurance like Medicaid. If you don't qualify for Medicaid there are other HMO plans that you may qualify for with a low monthly cost. Check the New Jersey Medicaid site-you can google it. When switching to a new doctor, you have to request your health information to be sent to the new doctor. Some offices charge per page for that. Legally, your old doctor's office has 30 days to furnish the records. Keep that in mind if they give you a hard time. I used to work for a government funded health clinic that provided health care for people without insurance. It's quite cheap. Look up North Hudson Community Action Corporation. They have 6-8 clinics and I'm sure you can find one near you. I haven't received my packet yet so I don't know when the health forms are due. Hope this helps :)
Is the school open this friday so I can drop off the form or they re-open on Monday?
I had a few questions regarding the order forms. For the nursing training kit, all we need to mail in is that one form that just says students name and telephone number?? and also for the UNIFORMS, what exactly do we need to get? do we need to get everything that is on the order form like the name pin, jacket, shoes, etc??? how much does it cost?

school is closed on Friday.
You will need the Name Pin and if you can spring it, get two just in case. ALL WHITE shoes/sneakers are mandatory, and make sure you find a comfortable pair. Some bought the Jackets with the uniforms and some didn't. But if you do get chilly, you may want to buy it.
All White Sneakers from Footlocker: http://www.footlocker.com/searchresults/keyword:flpicnicshoes/
Stethoscope and I suggest with the bell..to hear Bruits. My first didn't have a bell.
Davis or Mosby Drug Book
Pin Light
and again if you have a couple extra dollars..the RNotes Pocket Guide came in handy sometimes
Lastly, for clinicals, take all the Validation steps with you. Many of us would shrink it down to minimize the size for easier carrying. like with validations, some of the profs will expect you to be able to talk yourself through some of the steps.....like with administering meds (Insulin...which is pulled first ?.....Regular...always remember RN meaning Regular is pulled first before NPH) and etc...
The school has health insurance for students. not sure how adeqate it is but check it out. You will need a stethoscope and the scissors were not mandatory. I would suggest getting a pin light and a small ruler for your assessments.
you are correct on the Name Pin and School Patch. Belle Uniform has it all even the stethoscope and shoes, but i bought my steth online.
I am not sure how the 8 credits are considered, thats a good question because there are many that receive financial aid/loans. the contact hours I believe are more but i am not sure if that matters.
What kind of stethoscope did you get and from where? Do you know which one we need or should get?
When I go to Belle Uniforms for a fitting, how long does it take for the uniforms to get ready? Do we pick it up or they deliver it to our homes?
As for insurance, I found our school has insurance. It may not cover a whole lot, but it's affordable. Do you know when we need to hand in our medical forms? because it may take time for me to get the insurance and I want to use it for wellness benefits.
also,
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT I HAVE TO DO ABOUT PAST MEDICAL HISTORY? THE LAST TIME I'VE BEEN TO THE DOCTOR WAS ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO AND THAT WAS MY PEDIATRICIAN. I'M LOOKING FOR A NEW DOCTOR, DO I GO TO AN INTERNALIST OR FAMILY DOCTOR? DO I ASK FOR MY OLD FILES TO BE TRANSFERRED? WHO DO I ASK?
