Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!
Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.
Thanks!
Congratulations to all who got into the program! Will the acceptance packet tell us what text books we need or do we choose from the books listed under the course content? What vaccines do we need? I will be away all weekend so I am not getting my letter until Monday. I am feeling stressed out with everything I need to do for my current classes and trying to make the time for what needs to get done for the nursing program. BUT it's a happy stress!!! (seeing the recall message definitely was not a happy stress)
Thank you all for for taking the time to help out all the students trying to get into the program! ukgirl7655, DaddyO and all the rest, your insights are invaluable to all of us anxious students entering the program. Thank you!
Happy THanksgiving all!!!
Hi Kami!!!!!
Congrats again....
if you run into any challenges make sure you act quickly and don't dig yourself into a deeper hole. been there done that.
Also, and this is for everyone.....i am not sure if this starts in Level 1 or when...but there are two programs in place to aid in your success:
1. ASAP - Advisement for Success and Progression
2. POD Advisement
I would suggest finding out who your POD advisor is if you have not been contacted.
Lastly, get involved with the Nursing Club. My good friend Chris G is the current President... Beth is the VP and Mark is the Secretary I believe. they are on their way out (graduating in 28 days and counting..HURRAY !!!) and new officers will need to be voted on.
Good way to fellowship and get involved to help improve the program and its presence. Prof Kelly and McMorifice are the advisors and are two of my favorites.
Get involved both in and out of the class.
for the insurance, which one did you choose?
i went onto the nso website, clicked on Individual Professional Liability Insurance, then state of nj.
what did you choose for primary area of study? is it RN (coverage n/a for midwives)?
MISSMOONE--I signed up for the American Heart Association's BLS for Healthcare Providers at the Wayne first aid squad as well, but it's this coming Monday. I'll let you know what to expect.
DADDYO - I have 3 boys, two of them under 5, and I understand how challenging life must be for you sometimes. I admire your determination for getting through the program and I double thank you for taking the time to help out everyone!
Kami, you are an angle and I am so happy we are going to continue on this next journey together!

hi Italy,
Yes that's what you choose, but it's also important that you choose student (option) below it. All in all it should be quoted $35 (and change)

Kool!!!. I almost signed up for that!!..lol!!, but I remembered I have class that day so I chose a saturday. But yea please keep me posted on the experience :-)
Lectures are on Mon and Tues and start at 610pmClinicals are Wed and Thurs and start at 530pm.
You will not start clinical right away....and have lectures on Wed and Thur until it starts...but you will still need to be in class by 530pm.
I work in NY. during my lecture days i get in at 645-7am. during clinical days I get in 6-615am...this is so i can leave ontime for class.
I also work as a CNA on weekends. I did an Externship and they asked me to stay.
I have two young daughters.
My point here is that if you want this bad enough, you will find the time to study despite the busy schedule.
I have a blackberry...and I email all the lectures to my phone, to read on the bus/subway, during lunch, in the bathroom, just whenever I have any down time. The library is open on weekends to fill in any gaps.
Its doable, but again if you are having any challenges...speak to the Profs and see if they can offer any suggestions.
Thanks for the breakdown DaddyO. I work as a Medical Assistant in Manhattan and I also start real early. I know the feeling of getting up early.... Do you find certain aspects of the program easier because of your work experience as a CNA?
And I agree with your statement, "If you want this bad enough, you will find the time to study despite the busy schedule." I want it REAL bad so I'm willing to work really hard for it. Thanks again for your helpful information.
MISSMOONE----AHHHHhhh..Not sure if I am going to take that class... I originally signed up for the red cross CPR class, realized that's the wrong class, and tried to cancel but realized they have a no refund policy...trying to reschedule for Jan. 3rd...hope that's not too late.
Trying to pack for a trip to visit my sister in NH, take care of and referee 3 kids!!!!! Ahhhh
