Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!
Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.
Thanks!
I just started my first fall semester. Regarding the HESI, it was a breeze through. They required me to take Math, Reading and Grammar, Chemistry and Biology. I am not sure this goes same to evening class applicants but anatomy and physics were not required.
In terms of difficulty...
Math - not to be selfish but it was literally 9-10th grade math. Most questions dealth with addition/subtraction, few multiplication. Some questions were straight foward (you just have to figure what x is in a given formula), some were situation-based (still straight foward, cannot get harder than algebra). YOU WILL DO FINE ON THIS!
Reading, Vocabulary and Grammar - nowhere near SAT level. Honestly, natives, even second language speaker, could hardly ever find it difficult. If you are able to speak, you are good to go.
Biology and Chemistry - High school bio and chem should be sufficient. Most questions were concept based and determine which structure does what. I am sorry I cannot recall any questions that I've had, but they were mostly composed of introductory/concept-based questions.
That's why I recomment to get the exam review book that the college recommend. I could have done it even without it but why take chances, right? We all worked so hard to even come to this point. Well, if you feel nervous already, go get this book that they recommend. They advertised real good, made me go get it, and it helped!
It's called Admission Assessment Exam Review by Hesi (Eveolve Reach).
Heres the ISBN # - 978-1-4160-5635-5
I got this book at B&N
Go over it til you become comfortable with the materials.
Good Luck to you ALL!
Hi Jinsooked.
I'm studying for the Hesi exam right now using the book they have in the library. it's been awhile since I've taken bio and chemistry. Will the review from the hesi book help? or do I need to look at additional notes? i applied for the evening nursing program. how are the classes so far? what is the schedule like? can you tell me how the schedule is so I can know ahead on what to do about my job time? thanks
newstart85,
sorry for late reply.
Bio and Chem materials were basically from high school. If you review what is in the book, although there seem to be not much of it, you should be able to do fine. If you still feel like you don't have sufficient info, I would recommend you to check out "nursing entrance exam book" from B&N. This way you can make SURE. :)
Currently I am in the day program, it is so far so good. We mostly learn about how health care system is set up, along with fundamentals of nursing. I do not have an idea how the evening class would be like.
The HESI exam was computer based, no calculators but they provide you with small marker board(with eraser) that you can use it as scrape paper.
Good luck to you, hope you the best!
Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this site and i dont know how to make a new thread. I was just wondering if anyone who is currently attending UMDNJ-Accelerated program has gotten in with a 2.5 gpa? I am currently taking some classes over again at a community college and has been receiving all A's. What is the possibility of getting in?
Thank you!!
hi wannabeanurse81,
i did take the hesi a2 exam to get into bergen on thursday. it was much easier than the study guide, but i prayed a lot while i was studying, so it wasn't me, it was God :-) but I did well.. the math was fine, the bio was fine, the vocabulary was fine, as was the grammar and reading comp... the personality tests at the end were cool too... i'm just thankful that I got thru the test with much prayer... i didn't get anything below an 86 on any section except chemisty... not sure what the cut of score is.. but i'm praying that I am accepted... because i took it so early, i have the long wait till mid-end november to find out so i'm praying daily...

Hi Kami927.
Did you apply for the evening program 2011?
I applied for it and I got an email saying to take the Hesi exam.
