Being micromanaged by a CMA?

Published

One of the day medication aides is starting to literally micromanage everything I do and it's driving me insane. I'm so over worked and spread thin. im the only nurse in charge of 50 pt with no medication aide. So yes I may leave a darn medication rapper in the cart because I forgot to put it in the shredder. Or maybe I didn't date the applesauce that I just opened. Well now she's writing emails to the boss lady. I'm just fed up. Getting very depressed and frustrated here. I own up to my mistakes but I keep making them cause they don't staff me adequately. I think I've had it.

Well, I would seriously thinking about parting my way with this girl and this place ASAP. And take sick leave for the time remaining. And tell your boss why it is so.

P.S. take a look on MA scope of practice in your State, it should be available for everyone through Medical board which certifies them. If it is written there that MAs only allowed to dispense meds "under direct supervision" or not at all, you can safely report the facility.

She is supervised by the day nurses. I don't work with her. Boy I wish I had time to write emails about the previous shifts and all the stuff they forget to do (like all the dressing changes I end up doing) but I don't have time I don't even have time to pee.

Holy cow. I just in all sincerity agreed with NoADLs.

I did too. What is this world coming to?

No, no---don't fall to her level. Petty minds obsess over petty things.

Don't respond. Why do you think these other people are telling you this? They want to see you sweat. Don't let them!!

You're the nurse---wear it proudly and strongly!

I definitely won't stoop to her level. Unlike her I am more likely to talk directly to someone if I have issue with something but you know. People have different ways of dealing with stuff. I'm just gonna be super careful from now on because the you know what is watching!!

I've never dated an applesauce, like ever. I'm too darn busy to date stupid applesauce. I'm going to throw it away at the end of my pass. Geez. I might time and date it during it state, but otherwise, it's not like I'm using it beyond my pass.

I'm scared because I have improved greatly with charting small stuff, but sometimes still I forget to document little things. Like that I faxed stuff, task oriented things. I do the tasks but forget to document that I did them.. Except when it comes to really important things. I got myself a little note book to jot everything down.. I am aware that I need to improve that stuff.

This workload is insane I don't sit down I don't eat I spend all my days off stressed and then I go back in. I was gonna try to wait a year before leaving but I don't know how much longer I can do this. Instarted applying else where with only 7 or 8 months at this facility.

Once it looked like a missed med because I didn't document "refused" .. I was waiting til the end of the night to give it because she had been nauseated and we were waiting for it to pass so I could give it. Went back in at ten and she was still nauseated. Forgot to go back and document that. The med tech reported me. She seems to be watching everything I do.. I do not get recognized for all the good I do but I guess most nurses feel that way.

And the more stressed I get the more I efff up lol.

But I've never made a big mistake or put safety at risk.

Thanks for all the replies. I feel a little better

Are you using a PAPER chart with 50 pts? That's craziness!

Problem is i opened it at end of medpass and left it there for her to use next morning.

Idk I think I find reasons to be hard on myself cause I *think* it will help me stop making mistakes, and it's counterproductive. Causes me more anxiety and I lose focus.

Just an idea-- but try using positive affirmations instead. Laugh if you will but---- i returned to nursing after being out a long time and i was super nervous. I also get flustered and mess up when nervous

I actually had a guided imagery ( ok, call it hypnosis) cd made for me. It was specifically for me and my concerns and i listened to it 2-3 times a day in the beginning. Lots of positive affirmations and during the day i would find myself "hearing" those when stressed. It helped.

Be kind to yourself-- you sound like a bright caring novice nurse that's picking up on things really well

I so want one of those individualized guided imagery tapes. Where did you get it, if you don't mind sharing.

As a med aide, I could not care less if the nurse before me leaves an applesauce there. charts, forgets, or leaves a medication wrapper. I simply clean it up. No need to really say anything as there are other things really think about. Sounds like this med aide is taking advantage of you. Your drowned in work, and she isn't it seems. Don't feel obligated to explain anything to her. She simply passes meds, that's all. No injections, insulin, tubes. it's not her place. I can see forgetting a medication, because you or anyone can get in trouble for that on a higher level, but only to 'remind' and not report.
