BCIT nursing Sept 2015 intake

Published

Hello all!

This is my third time starting a forum (aka my third time applying to a program...).

I am planning on applying to BCIT BSN for September 2015 intake.

Applications have already opened, but I am still waiting on marks. In my case, I have everything but my grade 11 courses (ha). I am currently finishing up Chem 11 and Math 11 because I had a C+.

....I guess grade 11 really does matter.

The deadline is April 1st. Here are the prerequisites as of January 2015:

*note: all changes are in italics

  • English: two years of education in English in an English-speaking country
    (previous requirement: B)
  • Chemistry 11 (73%)
    (previous requirement C+)
  • Math: one of the following:
    (previous requirement C+)
    • Principles of Mathematics 11 (73%) or 12 (67%) or
    • Applications of Mathematics 12 (73%) or
    • Foundations of Mathematics 11 (73%) or 12 (73%) or
    • Pre-Calculus 11 (73%) or 12 (67%) or
    • MATH 0007 (73%)

  • Academic Foundations requirement: Completion of 18.0 university credits with a minimum of (67%) in each of the following courses:
    • ENGL 1177 Academic Writing or a first-year transferable English composition course* (3.0 credits)
    • Anatomy & Physiology* - must have been completed within the past 3 years (6.0 credits)
    • PSYC 1101 Introductory Psychology 1 or an equivalent Psychology course* (3.0 credits)
    • General Education [PDF] electives at a 100 level minimum in at least 2 different academic disciplines (6.0 credits)

Feel free to share your story or concerns. I've found it useful to have a forum open for people to discuss their concerns throughout the process.

All the best to you!

Good luck on your application! I just applied to BCIT on January 19th. My status says I'm pending department review. Fingers crossed! I completed my academic foundations in nursing at Douglas so I have 30 post secondary credits. I saw on their website they want 6 credits of liberal arts, so make sure you have those. Psychology doesn't count nor does medical ethics in philosophy. English does so that is a good some to take. My gpa is 3.5 right now which isn't great because last semester dropped it. I also have a 130 volunteer hours with Fraser health. I hope I get in I don't even know if what I have obtained will be good enough :(. I just know BCIT is an awesome school. I am wait listed at Douglas college too.

Did you have to upload a BCIT transcript as well for the liberal studies courses?

Hey has anyone heard anything about their applications yet? I applied for the aug 2015 intake too! But it just says "web app; not yet reviewed" :( does anyone know when shortlisting is supposed to happen?

@ipascu I'm just wondering since you have everything else completed but currently upgrading chem 11 and math 11, you are still eligible to apply for the September 2015 intake? I'm in a similar situation (I need to upgrade chem 11 as well) but I was under the impression I would have to complete the course entirely prior to applying because they require all documentation and transcripts with the application process.

Hey, I ordered my transcripts from Douglas College and it showed all of the classes I took. I have taken liberal art type classes at Douglas that are on my transcript. I notice BCIT has Libs courses, I haven't taken any of theirs. 😓

I applied for August too and it just says pending department review. The suspense is killing me!! 😭I don't know when the short listing happens exactly. But I'm sure it will be several weeks after the application cut off.

I got a message on mycommunications on April 1st saying that my application has reached step 2. It said that the department will review my application and then determine if I'll be shortlisted.

When did you submit your application?

I am also curious when you submitted your application :) I applied to the September 2015 BSN intake on March 31, 2015, but I am still only at level 1 - pending department review. Hoping to get an update soon, but I figure it might be a few weeks. Fingers crossed!

When did you submit your application?

I submitted my application March 30th. I also just got an email saying that I was short-listed. Hopefully everyone else gets their notifications soon!

I was actually just short-listed for this intake. Got an e-mail not too long ago telling me I'm supposed to do that short-list questionnaire by next week pretty much . Not sure if I'll want to actually accept for this intake since I want to finish the schooling I'm working on now. Still wouldn't hurt to do it I guess... I did pay $62 for the application fee after all. Thought I would let you guys know!

Just got shortlisted as well!! Hope you guys got yours too :) I'm scared to get excited at this point haha I reeeeeeally hope I get in!!

I got shortlisted as well! Ahh! Good luck everyone!
