Hi Everyone!
I just decided to make this thread because I'm looking for some advice/insight on what more to do to get into the BCIT Nursing Program. I'm finishing up my last pre-req (BPK 325 at SFU) this semester and want to apply for the January 2016 intake. I have recently started volunteering at Nursing home and will have 50 hours by June and I currently have 50+ hours volunteering with the city of Surrey.
Any advice would be great! Thanks :)
Hey everyone,Congratulations to those who have made it in! I'm currently a level one student and it's been quite the learning experience.
If anyone of you are looking for textbooks for Jarvis 2nd Edition and APA manual, I have it for sale. PM if interested :]
Hey minniel,
Do you mind telling us which of the optional books you purchased and thought were useful? Thanks in advance! :)
BCIT only issues compass cards for the month when your program is starting. So if you are in the January intake, your first u-pass will be issued for the 1st of January. You can pick this up in advance though which you will receive an e-mail about.
In terms of textbooks, the only optional one I found useful was the med-math which includes conversions from one unit to another. If you do not know how to convert from different units such as grams to milligrams, to micrograms from grams, this textbook would be highly recommended as there are a lot of questions to prepare you for the med-math exam. The pocket version of it will do, helpful in clinical when you need to convert drugs. In level one, you never have to convert drugs, not from my experience anyways.
For required textbooks ... I wouldn't recommend you guys to purchase Gould's pathophysiology yet. Depending who you may have for your prof, they may just change it to a recommended because this semester our prof didn't need us to buy it. With the amount of reading from all the other courses, it'll be too much to be doing readings for patho.
Hi everyone. I am in my last year at BCIT and I'll tell you what I got accepted into the program with:
83% in A&P
93% Chem 11
87% Bio
93% ENGL
87% average for alternative credits
Volunteer hours ???
As I don't recall sharing the number of hours in my application nor did I provide letters of references to validate. BCIT looks for grades, yes, but life experience has a huge leg up for a decision. For example, I have been in restaurants for years and it was explained that that would be an advantage to for my application as some skills are transferable. It didn't matter where I took my pre reqs, as long as I knew they were tranferrable to BCIT. But taking a course at SFU vs Douglas doesn't affect your chance of getting in, only your personal resume (life experiences, volunteering, jobs) and grades. Hope that helps. BCIT is f*cking amazing and I wish you all the best!
Hey everyone. Congrats to those who were accepted! I was waitlisted, but will continue to improve my application to make it in next intake. Has anyone taken the LIBS 7001 or 7002 from BCIT yet? If you have, would you recommend taking them online or in class? I'm planning to take them both next semester. Thanks!
I definitely recommend online. If you're just taking the classes alone and not during the semester it isn't so bad to do them in class, but they're 3 hours long and it's a lot of group discussion and participation. If you're strong at English and essays then online is the way to go. I did mine online, wrote my essays the night before, aced the exam and ended with a 97% in the composition class.
Hi,Congrats to everyone who got accepted. I was waitlisted and then I got a call saying that I was accepted. However, I have decided to defer my offer until August 2016 due to tight finances so I hope one of you guys on the waitlist were able to take my spot :)
i have deferred my acceptance as well! I'm excited to meet everyone !
