Baylor FastBacc 2012

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hey, anybody applying for Baylor's FastBacc program for 2012? I'm applying there as well as Brookhaven (to start Spring 2012)... I'm optimistic about Brookhaven but not as much about Baylor! For Baylor, my prereq GPA is 3.23 with a 3.5 in the sciences... cumulative HESI score of 90.64. Is there anybody who has turned in an application or is planning on it soon? I'm wondering about their application timeline too (i.e. when admission decisions will go out).

Yes congrats everyone! So happy. I think I'm decided on going to Baylor over OU even though it's cheaper.... I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to pay for it but I didn't take out loans for my first degree.. Thank god for scholarshops and texas tech being cheaper. so I'll be able to get those this time around. I'm going to apply for every scholarship possible though and definitely talk to baylors financial aid representative. I feel like its worth it for baylOra networking and staff

I definitely agree, I feel like they do have the best staff. But I don't know how I feel about giving up my spot at Brookhaven if I won't be able to pay for Baylor... I don't want to pay for this education for the next 20 years!

Congrats to you all also!! We should definitely meet in person before starting the program in May! As far as the $ is concerned, I'll be taking out loans & hoping for any sort of scholarships possible. As far as not working goes, I luckily have an amazing & supportive husband who will be a huge help. I know that the cost is scary, but I feel like the education, contacts, & prestige that comes along with being a Baylor nursing student & nurse is priceless. Also, for me getting my bsn out of the way in such a short amount of time is a huge plus! I'm sure after nursing school we'll all be burnt out on school for awhile ;)

@sugarmagnolia, I totally understand how you feel though! I took most of my Pre-reqs at Brookhaven & thought about applying there also, especially if I didn't get into Baylor. It's a great program also. If you can make it work financially for Baylor I think you should totally go for it since you can have your BSN in 12 months vs just an ADN in 15 months! Also you have to think about all the contacts you'll make at baylor & that you'll very likely have a job lined up before even graduating!! BUT of course you'll become a nurse either way & you have to do the program that feels right for you. Congrats on having the option for both! :) That's a great place to be even though I know it seems tough right now having to make such a hard decision.

Me too!!! Am so thrilled!!! Have you sent the "yes, will attend" letter back?

@sugarmagnolia and @ er2012: I am in the same boat as ya'll..worried abt the tuition. But what I have heard is that Baylor has a lot of scholarships that reduce the final cost. I really hope we qualify for some of them! Baylor is my only option as I cant afford to be out of the workforce for more than a year, and I cant move from the Dallas area (expecting baby in 3 weeks!). I am going to reach out to the financial aid person at Baylor (wasnt his name Tulu?)...will keep ya'll posted on what I find out abt scholarships!

p.s., gobaylor account still says "required:admission to the school of nursing", but i rcvd acceptance letter in mail yesterday. always thought gobaylor was updated first....anyways, so for those of you looking at gobaylor...dont stress yet. your letters may be on the way :).

That's really strange that some GoBaylor accounts got updated and some didn't, even though letters already went out! Thanks for answering those questions about financial aid - it's good to hear from people who can relate! I've been talking it through with friends but it's difficult because none of them are in the same boat. I emailed the financial aid guy to get the ball rolling, but I'm worried that I won't know for sure if I can do it or not in enough time, as Brookhaven's program starts in January... I know I don't have anything to complain about, since I did get in to both schools, but I was kind of expecting Baylor to make the decision for me, so to speak, by sending me a less favorable letter  Lots of thinking to do!!

Just out of curiosity.....does your letter say provisional acceptance? Mine did, with conditions being that I complete all the prereqs. I have already completed all my prereqs, so I figured the letter is just generic one sent to all accepted students....now I am second guessing myself....what do your letters say?

Mine says the same - provisional acceptance. Conditions are completing all pre-reqs (I still have 5 to complete during spring semester if I decide on Baylor) and acceptance at Waco.

Well, I think I have decided on Brookhaven. I am really bummed, because I really wanted to go to Baylor, but after looking at the numbers I just can't give up my spot at Brookhaven and risk going into so much debt. :( Silver lining though: someone from the wait list can have my spot! I'll be making someone else's day!

Hey is anyone going to be moving to The student apartments in Dallas for Baylor? It's only 450 a month furnished and all bills payed. If anyone wants a roommate and would like to meet let me know. Just seems like such a good deal. :)
