I was just wondering if there is anyone else applying for the 2014 spring program. It's my first time applying to a nursing school so I'm excited! My HESI is overall average 86% (not that great) and overall gpa 3.7, also I'd be considered a transfer student. Hope to hear from ya'll!
Hey guys! welcome new comers :) I had a quick question...i tried to get into my regular dr for some of these shots (since all the forms are due by oct 15) and they only had the hep b series........they referred me to the health dep of dallas, which is going to cost me about $400 for these immunizations. Anyone else dealing with this? thats bananas to cost that much WITH insurance.
Yes, welcome and congrats to everyone new to the board!
I asked about the shots when they called and he said we just had to have them by the time classes start. Anyway, he said they would talk about it at the orientation. I'm not sure how much it would cost but I think you can go to the clinic at Baylor. You might want to check there first because $400 is crazy.
Health Services for Students
The school of nursing has an arrangement with the Family Medical Center at Baylor, located at 3600
Gaston Ave. Suite 1109 in Barnett Tower. Although these services do cost the student, the practice
takes most insurance plans. The practice has four physicians and has committed to same-day
appointments for nursing students. Students should call ahead (214-820-8300) to make an
appointment and must take their insurance card to the appointment. The Employee Health Clinic is
also available to students for immunizations. The clinic is located on the ground floor of A. Webb
Roberts Hospital, and their phone number is 214-820-3323.
Hey! So it was interesting to go through the nursing school and tour the building and classes. We also ended up going into the hospital and watched some powerpoints and faculty explain different topics (financial aid, classes, housing, etc). I was in the morning group and even then they split us all up into smaller groups and went through each section in the school pretty quick. Therefore it was hard to try to recognize anyone from here. But I did get the chance to go look at the apts in the surrounding area and really do want to try to get a roommate to get a 2 bed/2 bath somewhere! With that being said, idk if anyone is interested in at least exchanging facebook info or twitter (Im mainly fb but do have a twitter just in case) lol? This way we can start knowing each other beforehand because afterall... we are all going to spend a great deal of time together! Yall let me know yalls thoughts!
It actually went pretty fast, they went through power points explaining financial aid options, addressed immunization questions, and talked about schedules. About immunizations, you CAN turn in the form even if you have one or two vaccines that you still need. That was helpful because I need TB shot but can still submit the form without it. She (De-De....don't know her last name) will let you know what else you need after you submit it. They also talked about CPR registration, I'm guessing they will send out info about it but there is a person they have come to the school (?) correct me if I heard this wrong anyone...... So basically if we do it through the school we don't need to submit anything. I will call and find out more details. The tour was nice, although I feel like we saw just a snippet of everything. Hope this helps!
I wish we had had more time, or had set up an "All Nurses" meet haha. I didn't see any of you, but it's not like I know names or faces from here! I will probably email David from student services regarding a roommate, he basically puts you in touch with people to figure out living situations. I might as well post something about myself here since I will need a roommate(s). I'm 26, married, no kids, and live in houston. My husband will not be in dallas with me, he's a lawyer and his firm is here. I plan on being in Dallas mon-fri and houston on the weekend. I will not be in dallas for the summer. Now that I am typing this out this looks complicated lol. But, seriously, if anyone is interested I would like to start getting this settled sooner rather than later when things get hectic. Bstillo, I don't have FB (used to, not anymore though) and am not a tweeter, but if you'd be interested in looking at places or exchanging info, let me know! :) I realize people want different things....month to month places vs longer leases or someone to live with until graduation....looking forward to getting to know everyone though!
