Baton Rouge Community College Spring 18

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

This is a forum for students planning to apply to BRCC in Spring 18' for acceptance into the Fall 18' or Spring 19' semester. I'm just looking to get to know fellow prospects and/or future classmates. Anyone that wants to discuss comments/concerns about BRCC's Nursing Program.

@ randomtesla,

You said the biology was harder than the book and the app. Can you remember what type of questions were in the biology section and what they were asking? My friend took hers on Thursday last week and the biology section was the only part that kept her from passing. :( She got a 91% overall but only a 72% on the biology section. I take mine this Thursday and I'm completely stressing out. I'm trying to write down all the conversions etc to memorize them. And I've been taking biology exams on the app, but it worries me if the app is nothing like the test. Thanks for any information you can give us.

Hi Stacie,

The questions that I remember had to do with concepts like mitosis, meiosis, biology terminology, DNA/RNA.

I don't remember exact questions but they related to concepts or details as such:

Mitosis/Meiosis

-References to G1, Synthesis G2 phases along with S phase.

RNA/DNA

-Complementary mRNA strand to DNA

Cellular Respiration and it's stages, along with alternate names for stages.

Differences between cellular transport from active and passive and the different types under each.

There's definitely more, but those are the ones I remember. The ones I struggled were identifying whether xyz happened at G1, G2, S or whatever stage during mitosis or meiosis, because I never learned that. The HESI turned out to be more in depth and detail focused than the prep book makes it out to be.

@randomtesla,

Thanks for the advice. My test is on Thursday and I feel like I'm gonna be sick. I just hope I can keep my nerves in check during the test and remember to take my time.

Anyone test today? How did yall do?? Good Luck everyone!!

Don't let the nerves get to you. The worst thing you can do is run out of time while second guessing yourself. I read that if you time out then none of your scores are eligible.

You've been studying, so you know how much time you've invested in making sure you know the material. Don't doubt yourself now.

You will feel great afterwards knowing that this is over and you won't have to worry about the HESI A2

I do want to share this information, because I had to research how to pull up my HESI score since no one at the testing site gave us instructions.

After you take the test, go to evolve.elsevier.com

Press: I'm a student

Scroll down until you see HESI SECURED EXAMS, and press Register for Results and Remediation

On the next screen you will see a product and 0.00 price tag. Press register, and on next screen Checkout/Redeem.

When you register your account, be sure to use your First Name Last Name and same email as you used when taking the HESI A2.

Once you register, sign in.

Press MY EVOLVE in the menu, and scrolle down until you see HESI ASSESSMENT STUDENT ACCESS

Press that, You will be able to see your HESI overall and subsection break down.

If your score does not show, you will need to call Elsevier directly and they can manually attach it to your account.

Hey everyone,

I took my test today and I thought I was prepared, but I guess I was not. I made a 74%. I passed everything except for biology and made a 60%. I'm confused as to when I can take it again. It says in the application packet that we can take it a max of 2 times, so does that mean I can take it again this month? For people who passed with great scores in biology, what did y'all do to study/prepare for it?

@softball5bb Im so sorry to hear that:( I'm using the mastery Hesi app and pocket prep. I've heard a lot of people say that the questions were similar. What resources did u use and what part was difficult to you? I mean did u see any familiar questions on the topics that were supposed to be covered?

@softball5bb

Sorry to hear that. I only used the pocket prep app and the HESI A2 prep book by elsevier. I would go to the Nursing Office and ask in person about scheduling for a retake. From my personal experience, the advisor does not respond to email or answer calls very well and you're better off just showing up in person so they can't blow you off.

How did you prepare?

I would go up to Nursing building and ask to speak with someone.

Wow this makes me so nervous, I'm scared about biology.

@sfussell1019 I hope you do well on your test today🎉🙏🏾

@edcnurse96 Don't be nervous! Just make sure you study the study guide book and know everything. Don't skip anything thinking you know it bc it's stuff that we learned in elementary school such as grammar rules

Hey Y'all! I've also applied for nursing school this semester. Took the HESI this past Monday and scored a 92. Just worried about the fact that none of my prerequisite classes are from BRCC. Ready for June to hurry and get here!
