It's basketball season in P.E. so this is what every student is asking for each time a basketball grazes their fingers.

yep - here too. That's a hard pass from me. Get an ice pack and sit there thinking about how you can be better at basketball?

My kids are doing Volleyball.... Lots of inner forearm "pain" HMMMMMM. Slight redness. FROM. They think they are gonna die and that its broken. No you wont die, No its not broken, Yes your arm is red, Yes it might sting a little. No, Im not excusing you from playing, No, I am not sending you home. Im seriously terrified of what some of my students will do if they really get injured or break a bone SMH!

Student comes in from PE yesterday: I think I sprained my finger, the basketball hit it and now look how bruised it is!
Me: that's black ink
Student *washes finger and removes ink * oh
I still gave her an ice pack just because.

That reminds me of a funny story. Had a 7th grader come in from Gym, completely sure her finger was broken and needed to be sent home. FROM No swelling bruising obvious alignment issues good hand grasp. Explained my assessment. Specifically said " It looks good, not even any discoloration" Ice pack and on her merry way. Came back 20 minutes later. " Look at it, its bruised, I need to go home" I look at it... Very yellow. I said" Wow, Ive never seen anything like that." She said, " its really bruised, I need to go home" All of my years of nursing expertise kicks in. I grab an alcohol swab and go about wiping the bruise from her finger. The swab is a lovely shade of yellow highlighter. I hold it up and ask " anything you want to tell me" She shakes her head and walks out. SMH!!!!!

Had a similar "injury" from PE r/t purple eyeshadow on an ankle. I cracked up inside when I saw the shimmer. Not gonna lie, I got a little giddy when I pulled out a cotton swab w/ alcohol as I said "I have JUST the fix for this." After I rubbed it off, I smiled real big and said "Here look...it's just makeup. Go back to PE now." Sometimes these HS kids kill me.
