Barry CRNA Starting 2016

Published

Hi everyone! Just wanted to start a thread for those applying to the CRNA program at Barry University starting January 2016! Comments, Questions, Concerns, Advice...

Also, is anyone in Miami interested in starting a GRE study group?

It seems like everyone that interviews gets in. I know one person that interviewed last year in August that was rejected. I wonder what the determining factors are since they don't ask many clinical questions during your interview? I guess your .. personality? Lol

@cm684

I am curious as to what information validates the assumption that most of those who interview are accepted?

Do you personally know a lot of people that interviewed and have concurrently been accepted? Or, is the assumption based on posts from this website?

I think the most concrete evidence would be how many people interviewed last year vs how many people were accepted last year.

Does anyone know?

Everyone that I've spoken to that's interviewed has gotten in except for 1. I just wonder what the deciding factor was for him. I feel as though the last interview I went through for ADU, and the USF interviews are very clinical based which ultimately makes the decision seeing as how they already find you qualified. But if Barry isn't a very clinical based interview, then what are they basing it on?

I know that during the webinar, the moderator said that Barry receives 350 applications each year to the program. I would like to know if that is completed applications or just applications in general. Many people will not meet the minimum requirements for admission. It seems as though Barry accepts about 70-80 students each year. At the interview sessions it seems as though they invite roughly 24 students to interview. Do they generally hold about six interview sessions per year? If this holds true, Barry interviews double the number of people that they accept. What do you guys think?

@gamommy81,

That's what I was thinking too.

At CM684. Barry's interviews are based on your application. They want to know who you are, why you want to be a CRNA and why you chose Barry. Be yourself when you interview. Humility goes a long way. Last year they accepted students until November. I know this because I kept asking. @ gamommy81, kinda makes sense but we don't truly know if all interviews have between 25-30 people.

So it sounds like we all have a great shot at gaining admission. That is comforting. It is also helpful to understand that even people who interview and are accepted at Barry choose to attend school elsewhere for various reasons. This increases our chances of gaining admission which is a nice thing. I get a great vibe from Barry. All of my correspondence with the staff has been extremely positive and that goes a long way with me. Other schools are tight lipped and you have to pull information out of them. That is a major deterrent for me. I figure if I am making this huge investment of time, money, and energy, I need to know all of the facts. Barry does a great job of keeping applicants informed of what is happening during the application process.

Does anyone know if all of the Ocala/Gainesville spots are filled? There were only four and two were already filled by previous students.

I'm not sure about that. I'm going for tampa. I hear it's one of the bigger sites.. but also competitive.

Also.. on June 19th there's 20ppl interviewing, and last yr a nurse I worked with interviewed and he was with 14 other ppl.

Cool. So the numbers vary. It seems like they interview people they would really like to see in the program. Did the person that you spoke with get into the program?

No, he's the only one I know who did not get in. He has been in MICU for 5 years.. 3.0 gpa and 299 on GRE. CCRN. So, I assume he didn't get in based on his grades/GRE scores? I just find it odd they even interviewed him to begin with. He interviewed in August, so he was one of the later ones.
