Barnes & Noble member?

Published

Anyone a member of Barnes & Noble? I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it to spend $25 on a membership. We have one close to our school & I guess students go there to study, etc.

I thought it would be worth it since I buy books all the time, but I found that after they add taxes to my order, I didn't get much of a discount. I found that Overstock.com offered the same books at about the same price as the BN membership price (of the book), with no taxes and only $2.95 shipping. I don't plan to renew my membership

I can see the argument of NYDreamer, but in my case my wife and daughter are both readers and of course all the neices and nephews are being encouraged to become readers too. Obviously, between the 3 of us we go to B&N quite often.

Initially the membership was to buy textbooks online and it paid for itself, but I'm done buying textbooks and studyguides for the most part. There are still the "pocket notes" and other odds and ends. Add to that, study sessions at B&N, Christmas gifts, neices/nephews, magazines and music ... it should still pay for itself in the case of my family.

I do the same thing meriwhen does...buy all my textbooks on-line, most of the time they have free shipping when you buy $25.00 or more...never a problem getting free shipping on the nursing books.

I do one more thing though...I joined www.mypoints.com(it's free to join..its a web shopping portal) and access the barnes&noble website through them. I "earn" 10 my points for every dollar I spend on b&n.com. I then redeem the mypoints for barnes & noble.com gift cards. My book purchases for one semester "paid" for my book purchases for the next semester. I'm in my final semester of nursing school and think b&n.com + mypoints.com is the way to go to buy textbooks!

If you go to the student nurse assoc. website nsna.com and click on the BN link you get the member discount for all online textbook purchases. Plus if you go to retailmenot you can get coupon codes for additional discounts. Hope this is useful!

I just went to the www.mypoints.com. You have to have 3450 points to just get a $25 BN gift card. At 1 point = $10, you would have to spend $345 for that $25 gift card. You said your book purchases from one semester paid for your book purchases for the next semester. How did that happen? You would have had to spend $1380 the first semester just to get $100 the second semester which wouldn't even come close to buying my books.

yOU GET THE BARNES AND NOBLE MEMBERSHIP DISCOUNT WITHOUT BUYING A MEMBERSHIP...SORRY I WANTED TO CLARIFY

B & N is not worth it unless you spend A LOT of money on books. I had the membership a few years ago, but I did not renew it when it expired. I have been a member at Borders for a couple of years now for FREE. There is always at least one coupon per week and I earn $5.00 Border Bucks all the time. Me and my husband love to read and spend quite a bit on books. I like Borders better for the selection as well.

I got a membership at the start of the semester - and it pretty much paid for itself - I am in there CONSTANTLY...they also send me emails with coupons for 10-20% on top of the member discount...speaking for myself - it was well worth it...

yes its worth it!! it wasnt until my sr year and after 60 books I invested in the B&N card!! and if u have a friend go 50/50 on the card n share it!:yeah:

I killed LOTS of study time at B&N. I couldn't imagine trying to study at home, or surrounded my distractions. Coffee/diet pepsi/tea, and rewarding self by reading fiction. good times.

I use Borders.....the rewards program is free, they send me coupons weekly via email. They also collaborate with other retailers for discounts. If I want to shop at B&N online I use the enternaiment book code for discounts. I'm not familiar with thier rewards program though.
